For those who don't know (and if you don't, may the wrath of GabeN punish you in your afterlife), Freeman's Mind is a one-man commentary/comedy series produced by Ross Scott, based on the good ol' Half-Life.

As we should all know, Half-Life kind of invented the whole silent-protagonist-thing in videogames so the players could insert themselves into the protagonist's place, which then kinda lead to the whole YouTube let's-play business.

Ross's rendition of Half-Life, however, is somewhat...different.

He started doing this series - I dunno, seven years ago? - on Machinima, basically role-playing Gordon Freeman as a neurotic maniac going through the events of HL1. Then Machinima began cutting paychecks for their content producers, and people, including Ross, decided to leave. After that he moved to his own channel and began popping episodes every couple of months - which is reasonable, considering mumbling to oneself like a maniac while keeping it funny and coherent is a LOT of work. Still, the episodes are coming out way too slow, and people have been joking about how the series is never gonna end for a long while.

Then things changed. Nine months ago, since Ross needs 500 bucks to purchase an SSD in order to answer the viewers' demand and upgrade the series to 720P, he made a video explaining the situation (which I recommend you to watch it because it's actually very entertaining and informative) and opened a donation box for the first time. The internet threw him 18 grands, which IMO he deserved every cent. Still, in return he made the promise to finish the series at the end of the year, and ever since then episodes have been popping up, along with his other old games review series, at an exponential speed.

And today, the moment finally came as he released the second to last episode of Freeman's Mind. It's a strangely emotional moment to many people - this man runs probably the highest quality let's-play series of all times, across the span of seven years - long enough for one to turn into an adult or get married - and the next episode will be the last. And Ross's probably living a hard life during the whole time too - I mean, he didn't even have 500 extra bucks for an SSD - though I'd rather believe that's what kept him naturally annoyed in every one of his videos.

Thus, I'm here to spread the word that Freeman's Mind, the highest-quality let's-play I've every seen based on one of the best game ever made, is about to end. In the good way. In my opinion, this man deserves all the views on YouTube, and I hope I could help him out a bit by spreading the words here. Anyway, happy new year everyone, and praise Lord Gaben and his delusional black knight, Ross Scott!

Why the questionmark?

What Helmstif said is true, Gordon Freeman does not speak in the Game, which is why some people made videos where they filled the silence with own dialogues, which is what lead to the Let's Plays, which is now a business for itself

I understand that - but he is hardly the first one to do so.

I'm not sure if he ever promised for sure, but I certainly hope so.

Yeah, it's not like Chronotrigger doesn't predate Half Life... and that's just one example of a silent protagonist.
