A sensor pack can "see" cracks in armour plate, it could see spalling, read temperature variations, determine warping or buckling... but there isn't anything that can determine armour "points". It would be terrible to have the game present the info that target mech has 8 points of armour on a torso, then count that down as you blast away at it... that would suck.
excerpt from your post I'm arguing with "HTAL really shows how many points are remaining in the area unlike the current display where people may miss the color variations"
That's what I'm arguing... showing the points isn't good...
Differing the readout wouldn't be bad, but directly representing points would suck.

part of warfare, is to a degree, deception. while i dont want the readout to lie to me, being unsure as to the exact condition of my enemy my cause me to make a mistake that allows him a comeback and vice versa.
if you want a game with exact numbers of + or - spelled out for you, stick to the TT game.

No such thing as an empty one. An open one is to be feared and so is the full case of unopened ones behind it. Good points but doesn't address the basic handicap situation. Handicap accessibility is mandatory in the US.. if you intend to market it here.

Duno if it was bug or not, but i got three times serious hits in my Atlas and i didn't even recognized it.
My mech wasn't even shaking...
My armor diagramm switched however from yellow - orange - red - internal - internal black out. In nearly no time.
That means i would have had enough time if i would had any idea about the thoughness of incoming fire. I was used to got a feeling for this by the shaking - no shaking no feeling of beeing vulnerable...mades me mad.
However a more exact armor diagram would help me to see what i can take. When the barchart drops 30% in about 1sec i knew that there is some heavy load underway to blew me up. Based on the droping i could read the weapons that fire at me too. Multiple hitzonse with tiny dmg. Laser...Multiple hitzones at instand-LRMs or SRMs. On large peak - Gauss / AC ...
However to have such a HTAL you need correct weapon stats and hitzones however
