I just played a few matches of CW on the "Hoth Map", the snow covered one that just destroys my FPS. Before, my FPS would average in the 30s (per FRAPS) but it didn't feel like 30 FPS due to the wonky stuttering that was going on.

Now I still get FPS in the 30s on that map (in one match I had a drop to 28 enduring CLRM spam), when I'm looking out over the main area and the action is heavy and such a low frame rate in MWO is now only about as brutal is it is in any other game. This is a significant improvement.

Now the only thing between me and the 60+ FPS I should have is PGI and CryEngine lol. Whatever it is about snow maps that tanks FPS needs to go ;)

Wow! That's a lot of posts in a row!

Sorry, was waiting for a CW match (and we know how that goes) and decided to tackle forum threads while that was going on.

Frozen City is my lowest FPS map as well. This is because of all the snow flying around (particles). I have my particles now up on high, as well as shadows, and I see around 40fps on that map. If I drop particles and shadows to medium, I get back to 60fps. Lower that down and see if you get a jump. Yeah, it won't look as pretty, but honestly, who even runs that map outside of thermal?

Sorry if this is an ignorant question - How do I clear the MWO cache file?

You delete the Shaders subdirctory: D:\GAMES\Piranha\MechWarrior Online\USER\Shaders for example …

Ok so I did 4 things and I am unsure of which one had the most impact. I used the optimizer. I set priority for MWO process to High. I set power in windows to performance. An finally I played without my web browser open.

I have a brand new system - i7 5930k 3.5ghz with intel turbo on one core to 3.9. GTX 980 4g. and running on Samsung 840 pro ssd. 32gb RAM OC to 2400

Until today I was seeing FPS of up to 120, but with lows down in the teens. Crazy stuttering. My mech would move like it was limping. Through overclocking RAM and adjusting the config I was able to get a low average of around 30-35ish FPS. But I would still drop down into the low 20's. After the 4 adjustments today I am practically locked at 60fps with Vsync on, with spikes down to 57 occasionally.

Going to play with the web browser open as waiting for matches this time f night is dreadfully boring. I'll let you all know if his drastically affects frame rates for me.

Well still locked at 60 now even with the web browser open. So not sure which of the other 3 had the most impact, but I have ZERO stutter now and no FPS spike drops. Smooth as silk... but with low shaders and medium particles.

Great. Glad to hear SOMETHING worked, even if we don't know for sure what exactly. lol And to clear cache you can click on the 'gear' icon which is located in the top right side of the display before you login into the MWO--right at the very beginning. That is where you can choose to run MWO in 32 bit or 64 bit way. Somebody said to clean that cache every time you change resolutions/settings and/or switch to 32 bit and back... maybe that is true too.

That's indeed interesting to read. Specifically because most of MWO runs on UDP/IP not TCP/IP.

I don't know what exactly it runs on but I had to enable TCP/IP permission for MWO in my firewall after I installed the MWO so that I could play it. It uses a dedicated port for TCP/IP... so who knows what exactly goes on in it's belly of the beast.

Ok I have eliminated process priority as the key to my 60 fps lock. I have a feeling it was a combination of the windows power setting and the Optimization tool.

Now if we can only find some new MWO user with troubled performance who haven't tried either of those things.. they could just start by setting power performance level to high, observing the results, then if it isn't to their liking they could try this tool, observe the results again, then compare the two results to each other and to the initial state.. hmm We can wait. Maybe somebody would come around with a pristine system upon which they can experiment.

Well... I know you guys probably consider me a rube. Power settings are probably the first thing everyone tweaks when they get a new computer. Just know that between Jesus DIED for me, xWiredx, Goose, and Smokeyjedi, I am now able to play this game without stutters finally, for the first time in 2 years.

Be sure to save a back up when using TCP optimiser. It does nothing in MWO for me, but it crashes another p2p game though.

The MWO repair tool will clear your cache too, but it takes a while.

I'm using Realtek LAN Optimizer. Seems it has same revitalizing effect to FPS stability.
