Agreed, which is why W/L is important along with KDR. The two stats are really needed if you want to make any determination about the quality of player.

I will agree with you in that K2D in conjunction with a few other stats might give you a more rounded idea of a player's skill. But I believe assists and average damage might offer a better view than K2D, in addition to the "most damage inflicted" number I mentioned earlier.

I care about the Stats because PGI cares about the stats

This game is so computer controlled I would say they know which team will win before the match even starts

This frustrates people even if they can’t put their finger on the problem they either rage quit or come on the forum and complain about this or that

This computer balancing is used to well balance out the game (you wanted balance right well this is how you get it)

How many times have you put the last shot into a Mech and someone else gets the kill or how about you get a kill and it’s like I never even hit the guy

When I first started I had a 100% disco rate at river city but when I found the stats page I had 50/50 win loss record

But I could drop into the training ground on river city with no problems

In CW at certain points I only had discos' when we fought the Clan, sometimes I got a disco with each Mech, sometimes when I got near the generators I would disco

I also feel the real reason behind the quirk system is an effort to clean up the code but still provide the balance (the buff nerf code is a memory hog and would cause a lot of disco's) that they want to achieve

JMTCW

my win loss stats
Wins / Losses 3,211 / 3,211

None of these things happen with any degree of regularity, especially not to the point where you can discount the entire stat. Some of these situations are entirely manufactured, like 'gaming the system'.

Only PGI knows how regularly these things happen. Neither you, me or any other non-Dev knows how regularly they happen. Gaming the System is a possible exploit and in online gaming, few exploits are not taken advantage of. Terrorists planting a bomb on an airliner rarely happens, but everyone has to be be screened nonetheless because of the possibility.

I'm concerned with my K/D, especially the Locust-specific values, but I don't simply go around vulturing. I'm usually one of the line-pushers and assault vanguards, if anything, brawling it up in Lights and Mediums. All it takes to make your K/D go up is to occasionally get some kills and then just not die in matches. Doesn't take any of that poor-sportsmanlike bollocks, just being a solid player.

I'm also concerned with my laser accuracy. In Lights, it can sometimes be hard to hold the burn on the target, let alone a specific point. I'd prefer if the stat took beam duration into account when determining the rating, because right now I think it counts as a whole even if you nick the target.

KDR is more important here than in others due to the lack of respawns.

No, KDR is still wholly irrelevant. I can have a KDR of 10000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000:1 , it still means absolutely nothing. No achievement, no c bills, no ingame perks, nothing but more worthless pixels.

Trying not to die, on the other hand, is good... assuming you`RE actually playing to win. It`s the cowards that try to avoid dying at all costs that are teh problem, and having the stat visible unfortunately encourages that.

The only thing stats are good for here is gauging personal progress, but you have to be able to understand how to interpret them, first. Higher is not always = better. ;)

I don't care about my overall KDR or Win/Loss ratio. I play too many joke builds, or fun builds, random mechs, or challenge myself by deliberately playing bad mechs with bad builds.

I do care about the stats on a few select mechs, because I consider them my representative mechs, mechs that I play most often, set my own goals for, and try to reach those goals. Jester, Timberwolf, Misery, and Huginns are the 4 mechs I actually do care about the stats for and will generally play a little more seriously.

The only stat that counts is the one at the end of the game that says how many on the enemy team are dead vs how many on your team are dead. Feel free to keep up the worry over useless stats that no one sees but you. No one cares about your stats either. To any who throw games to preserve your precious stats, you are the bottom of the MWO barrel.

I do solo Drops exclusive and i dont care for K/D or Weapon Stats or Achievements - my goal is that i have a postiive W/L (or at least 1.0) on all Maps in all Mechs.
Currently i miss this goal on Crimson City were i am at 0.96 W/L.

Also i try to slowly build up the buffer of won matches against lost matches and increase the difference.

Over all i want to have fun matches and for me good fights be fun though good fights imo be not stomps or autowins on what side soever.

Fighting in my favourite Mechs is fun - Winning is satisfying - i dare to say i want both.

I am an almost all time Medium Mech Pilot (Lights and Assaults only if a Task demands it):
Most played Mech: SHD 2HP (AC10, SRM10, ML) and Centurion CN9-A (Anti Light Role - AC10, Streaks, ML).
Sometimes i ride the Cicada 3M (ML, ERLL, MG) or the Thunderbolt 5SP (LRM10+5, AC10, ML).

The Centurion is a thing of the past as the state of the game is ugly to slow no JJ XL-Engine Medium Mechs and you will usualy see me in the SHD:

You're correct. Even if you do 0.1 damage with a laser and the rest miss it still counts as a hit for your % accuracy stat.

W/L doesn't matter IMO since Elo is a factor in match making. The nature of that will keep most players 'around' 50/50. Now in CW where there is no Elo, I could see a W/L stat saying much more about the strength of your team.

I care about K/D in a sense. I always strive to damage as much as I can (which leads to kills) while avoiding death if I can. The K/D score is a reflection of how well a player does that. Sure, sometimes you do 90% damage to an enemy and a teammate swoops in to secure the killing blow, and sometimes it's the other way around. IMO it all roughly evens out over 1000's of matches.

I know there are many that 'care' about their 'Kill to Death' stat / ratio and problem many that are also concerned with their 'Win / Loss' ratio.

I am interested to know how many of you care about these or some other stat.

Please be HONEST.

I could care less about W/L because for me playing PuG / solo it is mostly out of my hands. In Team / Group play it is different.

I do care about my K/D ratio but not enough to change my play style, or sit in the back and wait until 5 mechs are a breath away from being destroyed and then going after them, no I just continue to play my regular play style, usually to aggressive, lol

My main stat info I am concerned about is Weapons Accuracy.

I wish there were a couple of things that also showed on the stats page, like how much Team Damage I issued and What mechs the weapons were most used on / accuracy by mech/weapon load - meaning I have an 85% accuracy rating with gauss rifle on Highlander 732, but a 25% rating on a Victor 9S....I tried using a spread sheet, but that was just, well no.

So for me its Weapons Accuracy

You?

I care and track my stats. I use them to gauge my improvement with the game.

I would feel perfectly comfortable saying that someone with a KDR of 1.5 is better 99% of the time than a player with a KDR of .5.

Killing enemy mechs is the most basic objective of this game. If someone is better at you than that, well...

All of this has to be adjusted for class, but if you're playing a mech that can't really kill things chances are it's not a good mech.

I hope stats forever stay private in this game, to be revealed by the player at their discretion. Why, you ask? I need only point to World of Tanks as my example.

In WoT, am a 'blue' player, one step down from the lofty 'purple' players, for those who are unfamiliar with the most commonly-used ranking system in that game. The thing is, I really do not care about stats; I am there to have fun and win matches, not beat my chest and point at how many internets I have.

The problem with said stats is this: whenever a player voices an opinion, however valid, someone immediately looks up the player's WN8 score, and if it is subpar, that player typically gets bashed, along with their opinion. The opinions of purple players are taken very seriously, regardless of how idiotic some of their opinions can be (like anyone else, they have good and bad ideas). The same thing happens in in-game chat; I have actually lost a couple tanking buddies, because they refused to play a game where they were treated like dirt by the experienced players, before they even had a chance to learn the system.

I would hate to see this happen in MWO; the thought of the casual players being effectively ostracized is something that concerns me. I am ok with stats remaining in their current, private state, however; if units wish to use this as a recruiting barrier, they will still have that option available to them.

TL;DR: When did games (other than EVE) become so damned serious? Just play your best, watch your score at the end of each match, and adjust your loadout and/or methods accordingly.

Just my 2 C-Bills.

The stat I care most about is Damage per match, because its the only thing that is wholly in my control.
W/L I don't care much about except when there are challenges/tournaments that require wins. I am always playing to win, but it's not 100% on my shoulders to make that happen since most of the time I am with 11 other random players.

KDR I don't care enough about to be a D-bag and avoid deaths to preserve it.

The more stats you care about that are outside of your direct control, the more frustrating the game becomes when things don't go your way. I can still have a great game whether I lose or die.

I like them both and do my very best to make sure they stay positive.

But they have nothing on a tight match with just a few people left and you heart in your throat as you win at the last moment all the while going 'why ain't i dead yet! OMG I am open all over and one red from dead!'

I mainly look at my time in chassis and total damage by chassis values to keep track of what I have been using the most.

I would worry about win/loss of kills/death IF I could get them in like a monthly slice so I could to gauge improvement or the results of staying with a given weapon system or tactical choice over a month.

After a couple of thousand games the don't change very much over a month or two.

To everyone who says "stats don't matter", I suggest putting your money where your mouth is and post the following:

1. Your total / overall K/D ratio.
2. All stats for your four "best" Mechs in which you've played at least 25 games. I'll leave it up to each of you to decide how you determine "best" in this case. Make sure to post how many of each Mech's skills you've unlocked.
