Poll: Change to CW map (13 member(s) have cast votes)

Should two new factions be added to the map: Magistracy of Canopus and Taurian Concordat

  1. Not only no, but HELL no. Like we need to facture the player base even *more*?? (8 votes [61.54%] - View)

  2. Yes, as IS-tech factions (3 votes [23.08%] - View)

  3. Yes, but have them 'ally' with Clans so the powers to the galactic south can also face off against Clans (2 votes [15.38%] - View)

Hear me out before you call me an idiot. I am aware of some of the downsides to the suggestion.

Based *just* on the forum kvetching, a couple of themes seem to be emerging

* FWL, FS, and CC don't particularly see any value in defending other people's worlds from Clan invaders; they'd like to take some of their own

* CC and RR are low population factions steadily losing ground to more populated neighbors. For the Capellans, there really isn't any compelling need for the FS to face the clans yet, so why not finish the ******* sons of Liao off while we can? (no insult meant to the ******* sons of Liao).

Based on the Lore, of course, this is as it should be.

Of course, based on the Lore, there is a united Federated Commonwealth, which would siphon off all those Davion pilots. So we've already deviated from the lore.

So:

There are two major Periphery states to the 'south' of the Community Warfare map: Magistracy of Canopus and Taurian Concordat

From a lore perspective, they play pretty much zero role in the Clan invasion. Logistically this makes sense - the Pentagon worlds and Clan space are way the hell to the 'north', and logically it'd be pretty hard for the invasion to take any path than the one it's taking.

But forget that for the moment - there are a lot of compromises taking place, and 'reality' in this case is a bunch of giant stompy robots in the future and FTL travel.

If the Periphery States were opened up as factions, it'd give Davion / Marik / Liao a new front to consider.

If the 'reinforcing clans' - Steel Viper and Nova Cats - were to be associated with those two states, the map situation changes dramatically. The Clan player base fractures more, easing the pressure on the IS powers to the 'North'.

Of course, this doesn't only shred the Lore, it tears it into tiny little pieces. And the not overly numerous player base is further diluted, increasing the number of ghost drops all around.

But it may be something to consider.

It won't really make any difference, but I just prefer the Magistracy of Canopus to all other factions...

Stratagos uses the words "the north" so much that I'm suspecting him of being a Surviving Stark..
