do we really need to know it was an ammo explosion? what for - the after match screen tells you the cause of death

still the one destroying the weapon should be accounted instead of UNKNOWN. so either the one shooting and destroying it, or the pilot itself if this happens by heat caused explosions.

Hardly. I've had it happen a few times in my energy mechs and in mechs with ammo that never took hits to storage locations.
I believe it is a killfeed error that occurs when a lot of players are shooting a single target. Sometimes it seems the server can't decide who got the last shot in, so it credits UNKNOWN.
At least, that seems to be the sitiation I see this happening the most.
