I would have started with a more realistic environment to fight in.

In the short term:
I would re-purpose existing maps and game play types (conquest, skirmish etc.) into the random map queue for a planetary battle sequence. It shouldn't all be "attack/defend the gensets" all the time, with what is available today they could get other game modes/maps into the CW queue. The current setup of "only" attack/defend the gensets is over complicated.
Implement faction drops (which are coming)
Implement Merc units in such a way that they could take a per planet/battle contract with a given employer (aka MW2 Mercs). Mercs pay the dropship fees to get to a given region and then they fight for whoever pays the contract. MW4 Vengeance League had a setup like this, players in merc units could fill any number of open slots in a match and were paid immediately after when match results were recorded.
there's more but I don't have time to list it all right now.

I would also repurpose existing maps, and allow for skimish, assault and conquest modes.
The current UI for CW is very poor. They should put large red and blue arrows all over the map to indicate flows of attack and counterattack.
I would give recognition to those who destroyed turrets and generators. Addition to their kill count, their damage to such recognized for the end tally. Extra rewards etc,.
I would have people wait for the queue for five minutes, and when that is up, they would face a special PvE mission. Which is not going to be easy. Later this will be expanded to rare specially random PvE "boss" missions. Which is definitely NOT going to be easy but can produce a great reward.

You know what?
I could live without CW.
I have no interest in the whole power-struggle thing, and I've seen too much of PGI's time and resources going into this. I could even imagine the phrase "community warfare" haunting Russ in his dreams.
I would happily settle for a few larger maps with more game modes and respawns. Unfortunately PGI made their promises.

As people are finding out along the Clan-FRR border - the inability to fully conquer one side removes a lot of the potential from such a system
On the other hand - actually allowing one faction to be fully wiped out is yet another nightmare.

Promises I was sad to see the moment I saw them.

We got faction annihilation in Armored Core Verdict Day and Chromehounds. Your squad matches into the capital cities for some bitter city fighting. When one faction tops all others, the campaign goes into a reset and you start all over again. Note you can only change factions at the end of one campaign and at the beginning of another. No one or two week contract. You fight to the bitter end or glorious triumph. Campaigns don't last that long anyway. If your faction got annihilated and the campaign hasn't ended you can switch to and join a surviving faction.

I would've actually looked to Ace Combat's multiplayer gamemode.
Especially for invasions where you have one side escorting ground forces and destroying defensive positions as well as other pilots. The defenders blowing up as much of the enemy ground and mech forces as they can within the allotted time limit.

I hear ya Helm', I wish the effort might have gone towards a more realistic battlefield environment first, and a larger assortment of Battlefield maps to hunt upon, not that MWO won't get there eventually someday. I would have included a Solaris styled ring/lobby for spectators to watch the scheduled matches, team or individual with the results archived for future ranking/bragging rights. CW is important as well, but I think it has a lot of tweaking in its future. Imagining poor Russ has spent many a sleepless night since undertaking such an ambitious project. But he will be rewarded by the Mech Gods for his sacrifice, remembered forever within our BT Universe for bringing it back to life.

Until That Day!
