So I'm going to buy a 9M, and I'm going to buy an 8Q (actually I've already bought an 8Q), but as De La Soul so rightly said, three is the magic number.

So. Help?

4 LPLs on an 8T sounds like fun, but could be hugely fragile.
The 8R loaded up with ERLL and LRM15s could be a ranged god. But assault LRMboat?
or a mixed bag of PPCs, MPLs and a LRM unit on the 8R

I like big butts and I cannot lie I gravitate mostly towards lasers; aside from the massive nostalgia of all-Awesome lances in MW4 (and Granny-the-Awesome in Dave Wainio's excellent Suomi Warders fiction), I'm crap with PPCs so the 9M and 8Q are my "you WILL learn" mechs. I'm assuming at this point the third will be... the third, nothing major. But you never know.

Thoughts, o wise mechsensei?

I personaly love 8Q the most and even afther quirks 2xLPL 5xMPL still works the best PPCs are fun but still pulse build always get me better results might have something with my play style.

I also had 9M I sold that one afther quirks phase rly didnt like, thou he is decent brawler with great zombie potential about XLs in 9M I tryed and never liked it STD all the way for me,but still 9M can be fun with biger XLs cant argue that.

My 3rd choice was 8V brawler with ASRM6 and MLs or LRMs 1x10 2x15 I chosed 8V becouze 8R I always felt the need of XL engine and I dont like IS XL in general I feel sick when I put those even on mediums coz well I m too agresive to use XL,and 8V have 1 more energy so a lil better defense in those times when Firestarters come to kill U regradles that ur in deathball.

Awesome LRMboat is one of my favorite that tag in head along with artemis and my agresive playstyle really had me many great games LRM wise.

the 8V is WAAAAY better than the 8T

PPCs, LL, SRMs. STD 300. 8V is a BEAST!

8T is a terrible mech IMO and if you want to run 4 LPL it's far better on a Battlemaster.

I've got a few battlemasters (wubmaster, hellbringer and ... er... the medlaser one)

My brain never thinks "SRMS" when I look at missile slots, I don't know why. Perhaps I should start.

For a third Awesome with their LRM 15 quirks, I'd look to the 8R first and the 8V second if you want to use ALRMs or maybe even ASRM6s. I liked the 8V pre-quirks with three SRM-6s for example.

A general AWS-8R could go with a build like this for LRMs.

The 8V could consider this sort of build with LRMs.

The 8T can consider a build that uses the arms, such as with LPLs or LLs, but with it being so wide, other chassis would often be better served doing so like the BLR-1D, so something that uses the two LRM 15s and then Pulses, maybe MPLs might be fine.

8T - I found best for me with 2 ALRM15, head TAG & 2 LL fighting at distance.
4LL was a lot of heat, 4LPL would be tougher.

8V - is an odd one, my build is Ghost Heated now and quirks (if you want them) go in a different direction.

9M - never used.

8R - you could do that, same as the 8T. You can also do 4SRM6 & 2 ERLL.

If you pay for the PB, you can do close, long or mixed range but use 2 LL.

Look for the topic Ultimate Awesome Guide, check latest posts in it, OP is out of date some.

Heh. You all are giving me great suggestions but there's so much good stuff here it's making it HARDER to decide which one!

Thanks though ;)

8Q with either 6x Large lasers (beast if you can manage your heat and know when to alpha) or 4x Large pulse lasers (if you can't manage heat that well).
Set up the weapon groups with
*arm lasers only for swing shots
*full chest burst for a decent punch
*sequential fire on all lasers for sustained dps on something that isn't paying attention
*oh sh!7 alpha the face button (tilde key default?)

When I'm not doing full dakka in a crab the 8Q is my go-to mech atm.

Ugh... is it me or do they need to just make a Champion version of one of them and release a Master Pack for Awesomes?! I mean really? Been wanting to climb back into a 8Q since quirks, but jut don't feel like diverting that many C-bills to the cause, even with the current sale.

GIVE US AWESOME MASTER PACK!!

..... an 8Q(C) would be...so ..well.... awesome....

As someone who liked the Awesomes before quirks...

All of the 8 series is good (short of the 8R). If you use SRMs the 8R is good, but something about that arm draws fire. :(

And I can vouch for that King Crab

That King Crab actually ate my Kintaro's face in Canyon Network earlier today. I was the 2nd in a sequence of 3 kills he got in something like 45 seconds towards the end of the match. ;)

The 8V get's one quirk for LRM15's specifically, the other missile quirks are general cooldown and heat generation, so even SRM's benefit from then. I run mine with a PPC in the right arm, 3 medium lasers, and 3 ASRM6 packs. Standard 300, AMS, it brawls like a champ.

I went with the 9M, 8R and 8R as my initial three. Who knows, if I fall in love with them I may expand in time.

EDIT: leaving my original idiocy in place for posterity, but I was supposed to write "I went with the 9M, 8R and *8Q* in the end". I didn't buy two 8Rs -- I'm daft, but not that daft. I hope.

Thanks for the advice, all.

I agree with the 8V. It is by far my favorite Awesome. It just has so much character compared to the others, almost like a non-MC Pretty Baby. I run mine with an arm-mounted LPL, two PPCs, and triple SRM-2s, plus a head laser. Despite the quirk pass, I have no intention of changing that build.

I disagree about the 8T, however. Yes, ignore LPLs. But four arm-mounted LLs? It's pretty epic TBH. I very quickly mastered that mech using that very build, without ever upgrading it to DHS or Endo-Steel. With four of them, the lower-beam-duration advantage of the LPL becomes insignificant considering you can trade it out for an extra EIGHT tons for either speed or cooling by using LLs instead. It's a bit of a beast, really. And the Battlemaster can't mount four lasers in the arms.

All the Awesome are fun, and with quirks, some of them are pretty dang deadly, too.

I do like the 8V. It is an odd mech, with very asymmetrical hardpoints and lots of them in the torso, but it can hit like a ton of bricks and has a wide range of interesting builds.

The 8R is for missiles, but it does very nicely with them, while the 8Q is the same level of focus and ability, but just on energy weapons.

The 4 energy hardpoints in the arms on the 8T combined with the Awesome's wide arm movement range is an unusual combination. It gives you respectable ability to track fast moving targets up close. While that alone is not enough of a reason to buy it, it is worth noting and adds some character to a mech that may be overlooked if one only counts the hardpoints vs. noting their position. I was "last mech living" the other week with over 900 damage in my Awesome 8T thanks to those arm-mounted weapons. It was just me vs. one surviving enemy mech, and he couldn't get away from the endless sweeping lasers on the arms.
