Just picked up my first Bmaster because of the sale and opted with the 3m.

Is this an XL preferable mech or should I stick with STD motor?

Also, does anyone have any successful Gauss Builds out there?

You can change LBX for Gauss, for me LBX is better.

Battlemasters handle XLs a little better than most assaults. The mech is not particularly meta, so most players don't know if they should expect an XL engine, so they just aim for center mass. Also, with proper leg positioning to compensate for the limited torso twist (especially on the 1G and 3M), you can bring those massive shoulders in line to block shots aimed at your core. The other major strength of the Battlemaster is those high mounted energy points in the torsos, if you can see it you can probably hit it.

As for the 340XL... I own all 6 Battlemasters, and the only one I use a 340XL in is the BLR-1S rigged up as LRM support. My 1D and Hellslinger are both rocking 375XLs, and my other three use 400XLs. Battlemasters are quite fast for assaults, and generally good at boating energy weapons.

I run my BLR-3M as LightShow II (a variation on my older LightShow). Another option for a fast Battlemaster energy build is TheB33f's Wubmaster:

Using the engine you already have, however, because I know that large XLs are redonkulously expensive, you could do THIS. Note that you need to be VERY careful with the heat on that build, as excessive use of the Large Pulses will shut you down fast. At range you want to use the LPLs and AC10, up close the AC10 and torso mounted MPLs. The right arm pulse is mostly there to help out the AC if something tries to move around your flank.

That's a fantastic video. :D But...why doesn't he just use the 3S for that, what with its MPL quirks?

Looking back through the patch notes, it was early November. http://mwomercs.com/...49-04-nov-2014/

Yea I think im going to check out the wubmaster for sure.

I doubt I will get the MPL quirked model simply because it has 6ES and than I Would have to rely on missles.

I can easily make the 1G or the 3M work which I both officially have.

I slapped an XL350 and 8 MPL with a Gauss 'n 4 tons of ammo. The gauss works as the range beater so your not totally useless on something like Alpine (being left-handed gauss is an interesting quirk).

You can make the Wubmaster btw. by using the stock STD340 engine too.

My personal favourite is my Retaliator/Answerer

That 58 point alpha shreds stuff at close range.

If you know how to torso twist, the BLR is very XL friendly. If not... it's a pocket awesome.. aka Barn Door Pt. 2.

But theB33f and Escef gave me an idea.

Off to redesign the Smack-o-Lantern.

Only if they are stationary. If you are running as a skirmisher or ranged support it isn't much of an issue, but if you're the type to throw it in park while in someone's face you kinda' get what you deserve. So, while the cockpit hitbox is patently obvious, getting hit in it isn't too common unless you screwed up.

Honestly, though, the leg armor is so thick that you can easily shave a few points from there to even off your tonnage. I typically run my BLRs with 65 armor on the legs.

So I bought my first battlemaster today, have to say, I enjoyed the first outing with it, out-fitted as:

BLR-3S

Will tweak latter, but so far, am liking going IS, the mechs just feel better.

If you drop in endo steel and ferro armor, cut the head to 17 and the legs to 69, and cut the command console, you can up the engine to a standard 375. That's remarkable speed for a standard engine BLR.

Thanks for the pointers, I just might do that... I've got to say, I love the punishment that this thing can take, it's kind of ridiculous.
