Once you lose your high mount weapons you are pretty useless.

So what's the difference then if you had STD engine? Alive and useless and dead and useless looks similar to me, and most mechs can be made useless in the same way even with STD engine.

That was my point. I don't see a huge downside to XL on the TDR, but on the other hand I don't see much upside for an XL on a TDR because you can only get up to a 315XL.

Yes, you can make INCREDIBLY broken builds in MWO. Direstar is a great example of this.
But that doesn't mean you SHOULD do so. 1 because it goes against the spirit of the game [as no pilot in their right mind would pilot that thing and alpha till they explode unless they were suicide squad, and since you can relaunch, clearly your pilot is not suicidal] and 2) It's just bad form.

Unfortunately the 9SE is mediocre after the quirks.
You cant boat enough LPLs to make much of a build, well you can boat 4 but then you're in XL territory...
Unlike the 9S or 5SS it doesn't have RT mounts, the higher sniping mounts. It also then ends up with energy in the LT but also the RA - so you can't really sacrifice a side as a shield.
There just isn't enough value there for the 9SE to be more than a maybe T3 mech.

You don't need 4 of them, and it basically screams XL engine.
I killed a few of these tonight in my Wubbringer.
The 9S is a great mech now, but those side torsos are as huge and easy to shoot as ever - the extra internal structure isn't deterring anyone.
Be greedy!!!! I want you to be greedy.

The thread is about 4x ERPPC TDRs, how that's an inferior build compared to the 3x ERPPC you are using, and how it screams that one's using an XL engine and will obviously die when losing a side torso. 3x ERPPC doesn't scream that you're using an XL, as you only gain minimal extra DPS and speed for it. Are you claiming the 4x ERPPC is a smart build, if so, you could go play one in CW, take a screeny and be more relevant.
I'm anyway happy that you got lucky with your XL mech. And I'm plasantly surprised whenever the enemy 3x ERPPC Thud dies when I thought I was just reducing its DPS by removing a torso. Usually, at that moment, I'm thinking that the enemy pilot is probably regretting the choices he has made. But maybe he has some happy memories about that choice, too. Thank you for this insight.

Runs very cool, and can sustain decent amounts of fire in close range that way.
And yes XL in a TDR = death. I always shoot out the STs of TDRs. Because there's alot of bad pilots that think XL is the way to go in a TDR.
If I lose my gamble...I've still blown off at least 2 high damage weapons.
If I'm right in the gamble....he dies.
Win Win.
