It always gives me mixed feelings to read about the creation of such units. On one hand, I applaud the dedication of its members and its founder, but on the other hand I cannot fathom why they would not pick a less controversial name. One they would not have to fear surrendering upon game launch.

This is the same situation I face here. A group of Green/Regular Mechwarriors seeking demonstrate to Dragon his loyalty, bravery and skills. We could select another unit but http://www.sarna.net..._Sword_of_Light is our unit.
Cheers. Blackraider.

Konnichiwa(bows)
I do understand the need to demonstrate your loyalty to the Dragon, the question is once in game and your unit is not able to join any Sword of Light units at the start, and after going through any stipulations the devs have setup to allow someone to join said unit, learn they have no control over the unit.
What sort of perception will your players then have about MWO and their feelings towards this particular house? Even if IGP allowed an actual player COC who had more of a say about said units, regardless of the current canon/history, the perceive units would have an application/filter process in place. (chuckles) Look at all the WD units from all over the place attempting to lay claim to something that IGP will not allow in game.
Having been in a similar situation, the suggestions offered are simply to avoid any bad feelings and conflict, especially when IGP will have the final say and the unit not liking the resolution. An example of playing off the unit, and having the name less likely being restricted, use something like 5th Sword of the Dragon or 5th Dragon's Katana/Sword, etc.
This though is only my advice and recommendations, ultimately you and yours will eventually have to work with what IGP/MWO will allow you to do which will lead to lot of reworking of website, signatures, etc. Take a minute though and consider a few things, why hasn't anyone, publicly anyway, claimed any of the other SOL units?

Other than that, is it possible that the amount of players getting excited already about one of many factions in a game that is yet to be released is just not very large? This could still change later on. Or is it that most are looking forward to properly join one of the House units as per the system that the devs will provide?
I have to say, it does not appear to be a lack of willingness to claim the perceived high status that comes with a popular established name and background. I have yet to see a single DCMS unit that actually uses a newly invented one - any of the (admittedly few) regiments recruiting right now are using one of the established names of the canon, be it the Ryuken, the ALG or, well, the SOL.

I'm not seeing anything bad by reserving a canon name before all we know wich units will be represented in the game if, and only if, house teammates don't have a problem with that. If when the game is launched the name is not available: bad luck then; all we know the risks and I think nobody will have bad feelings against devs or anybody in the community for that reason. Simply choose another name and thats all.
Anyways I want to express our sincerely thanks to all of you for your comments and apreciations in my own name and for the rest of my mates.

Blackraider: The naming thing aside, I wish you and your warriors the best of luck in the upcoming battles. Show the Dragon's enemies what Combine samurai are made of!
Ikka-san: That is an amazing signature banner. Sugoi!
