***Fix***
***Please post if this DOESN'T work for you***
**Not sure if it matters, but I switched to 64 bit client before doing this**

1.)Go into your MWO folder.
2.)Delete folder titled "USER"
3.)Start game, the patcher should refresh the missing files
4.)Enjoy

This worked for me on one shot after being stuck for about 45 minutes. It seems like something in that folder got corrupted, and deleting it forces the update.
Reinstalling may not remove the user folder, which is why I suspect many of you are having so much trouble.

Try running the repair tool as well. Also, make sure you deleted the FOLDER, not just a file.

I removed everything, reset my DNS, still got the "patch" message when trying to log in.

I found my issue, and it was repeatable. I use Avast Internet Security. I had to disable their Secure DNS option to get the game to run. If your AV has something similar, trying disabling it, or possibly try disabling your AV shields for 10 minutes and see if the game launches.

I was able to fix this problem by changing the local NIC's DNS from automatic to manual and used google's DNS servers.

After getting the endless "please shutdown and patch" message I un-installed and re-installed the game. This worked for all of 2 days before it happened again so I tried the same thing except it didn't work this time. this time upon finishing installing I get to point where it briefly says "patching 1/2" then the client closes by itself. So I ran the repair tool and it said "repairs are finished", but when I tried to run the game it tells that the ".PAK" files are missing. (I ran the repair tool 4 times) Then I tried to un-install and re-install again and ran into the same problem. It's been a couple days and I haven't heard from support yet and this is the closet forum to m problem if anyone has any ideas.

This is exactly the same problem I'm having, Alzhiemer!

Just got a new PC for Christmas, and was going to give this game a whirl.

Downloaded the game. Then immediately wanted to patch it. Then crashed with 'missing PAK file'.

Ran repair tool, repeatedly. It seemed to want to get the entire game again.

Finally googled the problem, and found the stand alone repair tool.

That seems to have fixed it. Bolding the two items I think were hanging it up.

Alzimer, that exact thing happened to me too. What was happening is that the repair tool was removing what it believed to be unneeded files but upon closer inspection it was a PAK file and the bin64 folder. If you go to options in the top left corner prior to starting the scan part of the repair tool, you can uncheck the top box and this will fix at least that part of it. the patching endlessly bug that I had that forced me to run the repair tool in the first place just went away on the 3rd day and I still can't figure out what fixed that.

Time to bash my head against something...

Managed to play for a while, got my butt kicked (hey, I'm years out of practice), bought a Raven, Narc'd some Atlases, took a break, and then it starts over.

Click 'Play', log in, 'please download patch'.

Reopen game. Button still says 'play' instead of 'patch'. Now even standalone patcher wants to redownload the game.

... but I think I did switch to 64bit.
