I need to know when I am taking damage.

I just played a game where I was being shot but I could not tell. I died and looked back and I had been getting hit, but I was not being given any worthwhile feedback that I was getting hit. I consider that a major FAIL on PGI's part. You have to let us know if our mech is taking damage . This is fundamental. So basic to gameplay I can't believe I even have to bother writing this post.

Your hud flashes red in the direction of the damage (the outer border).

Red on screen indicator when your hit, and the direction the hit came from.

Also, of course, shake and such from impacts but not from lasers (lasers don't cause anything other than the indicator.)

So, pay more attention?

Another tip, you get a little strobe in your cockpit when you are targeted.

You should get damage indicators, but parts of the HUD are prone to failing and you don't always.

Earlier I had missiles coming to me, and the incoming missile text vanished out of its box, along with the critical damage text below it. The audio also failed.

Also, I believe if your enemy is hitting the terrain on your screen but is actually hitting you because of the rubbish hitreg in this game, you won't receive indicators, but will take damage.

Bless you, cryengine.

Hard not to know when you're taking damage, all the flashing, noises, paperdoll showing exactly where you're being hit and how hard..you know, that screen you use to play the game.

Hit indicator usually works for me, critical damage and missile warning can be weird though if too much happens at once.
And I'm still amazed how many people don't turn around immediately when they get an ac20 in the back...

You're expecting too much from the general population, the last week has taught me that a high % of players are incapable of using a keyboard and a mouse at the same time, many that can aren't able to make a decision while they do it.

Maybe we need to get more women into MWO for their legendary multitasking abilities.

I'm not sure how you could not know that you are taking damage.

Aside from the audio cues and the HUD flashing you've also got your paper doll. Not to mention the fact that screen shakes if youre getting hit by anything other than lasers.

Yeah, except the times when none of that happens. It's been well known for a while now that there are times when you get hit and there's no indication of being fired upon other than the flashing paper doll.

Lasers make that searing sound like fresh steak on a skillet. ..

You should notice it.
the hissing sound is something your mech makes when its over 70% heat. I've never noticed a sound from being hit by a laser... Though I may have just never noticed it given the cacophony of noises going on and normal (loud) background noise in my house due to children.

Sometimes you get hit and you get no Feedback as it is either delayed or missing at all - i guess the Problem occurs more when the Serverload is high.

I find that it's much more common to get false alarms than no alarm.

I often take damage with no sound effects, no indicator to the damage direction, and a large delay with my paper doll updating up to a 3 seconds or so.

Also worth mentioning that sometimes you get hit and the damage will reg on a part of the mech that is facing away from the guy shooting yet still take all the damage there due to HSR.

This is an old thread by now, but I didn't want to start a new one and it's the most recent one with the most conversation going that I could find on the subject.

I've been playing this game on and off for about two years now, I think, and I've never had any issues with sounds not playing or audio loss. Usually I'm super focused on shooting, minimap, and enemy paper dolls and spare only a quick glance at my own paper doll occasionally during combat. This has been completely okay so far, because between the audio and the red directional hit indicators, It's always been easy to tell when I'm taking fire, and where from. But since my last break lasting a couple months, I've been having huge issues with taking damage and not getting hit indicators or hit audio. As far as I can tell it's only when it comes from behind, but maybe it happens in other directions but I'm not noticing.

There are many, many times in the last few days that I've been killed when I was standing and firing off shots at distant targets from behind cover without shot at... until I'm suddenly dead. The damage report shows being killed by Small Lasers or AC/2s. Which means they were hitting me a lot. And I was getting no indication whatsoever that I was taking damage. It's happened in mechs of all sizes, and I don't skimp on rear armor.

Other times I'll notice my paper doll lighting up and look down and see that I'm missing armor on most of my back and my torso internals are turning red when there's not an enemy in sight only to turn around and see a a couple mechs behind me getting free shots.

It's frustrating to say the least, and at times can be infuriating. I've taken great pains to make sure all my drivers are up to date, all sound settings are set to stereo/headphones, and no virtual surround sound settings are on. All sound checks out fine in many other games on both pairs of headphones, my ear buds, desktop speakers, and monitor speakers. It's definitely a problem with the game, it's definitely something some other users are experiencing, and it's definitely a recent problem for me. As mentioned before, this has only been happening in the last few days, since one of the more recent patches, although I've seen posts as far back as 2013 with users detailing similar issues.

Any idea on what the problem could be? Are the devs aware of the issue? If so, is it being looked into? Is it something on my end that I'm missing? I still have a ton of premium time and MC sitting around and have been having a blast with the Wave III mechs I ordered so long ago, but I almost don't feel like playing anymore when this is leading to my death in almost half of my games!

once before in the past I have noticed sounds meshing together glitch like and cancelling each other out... like missiles incoming and target acquired.

If this is bothering your game, obviously, do yourself a favor and make a new thread ;) not sure where but... oh did you try the repair tool?
