Well no, I could have given a proper response, but not without coming off as a ****, so I chose to bite my tongue since you took two separate points and mashed them up into one, even when i specifically stated they were two separate points.

Well that's just great, see I sound like a ****!

Well, depends:

- A decepticon would waste any Mech
- An autobot would waste any mech, but then it would feel "sorry" for the pilot, and cease firing. The mechwarrior would then proceed to backstab the autobot, and add another kill to its kill list. (hey..!)

I'm lol'ing hard at all sides on this one. I'm a transformers fan and CBT lover; never the twain shall meet mainly
due to the fact that fictional-universe crossovers never come out pretty. I also love the hands on humanoid
battlemechs.

Let's get something perfectly clear here, battlemechs are 'walking tanks' by way of concept rather than design.
concept -not very agile, and carries a large weapons payload built into the chassis
design - doesnt move like a gundam/tf, doesnt have hands, weapons packed into a turret/multiple turrets

let us compare:
an actual 'walking tank' design (pulled randomly from deviantart)
http://grinnock.devi...ng%20tank&qo=13

with a typical humanoid battlemech
http://www.sarna.net...U_Centurion.jpg

now, which one looks more badass? I believe the centurion.
not even vaunted clan mechs come close to actually being 'walking tank' designs.

It BT its mainly a by-word to imply that we're not talking about gundams or something,
I don't think it was meant to be taken literally.

that said, you can have your hand-less walking tanks. Last thing you'll see is my centurions
left fist coming through your cockpit with your ripped-off cannon barrel in it ;)

As long as we don't get "Gundam"Mechwarrior I wont freak out. Game play should be emphasized, aesthetics is secondary (but still important).

May I suggest the Transformers/G.I. Joe crossover comics?

Because I really don't feel like explaining it and everyone by now has done a better job.

Thats how humans are. The Cannon Battletech IP also had a large amount of mechs with hands.

'Ai caramba'.. 51 replies!! Well, i did red most of them, so thank you all for clearing things up. And appologies for my english.. it is not my native language.

Well, it's obvious i'm way out of set here. Im really not into Battletech boards, comics or novels. BUT, i'm 36 and i did bought the very first MW from activision and went as far as it did last. It was my favorite game all time, and i still listen to MW3 Mercs soundtrack often (best game soundtrack of all times!). So, my approach to the Mech universe was quite raw and simple, but above all i was 100% into the simulation part. They were slow, heavy, some would jump on jet's, and actually felt like "piloting" a battle vehicle, loaded with guns.
So, nowadays Mechs can do melee?? Jump on hidraulics, grab stuff up, and who knows, maybe they would tap dance too? ;) Hey, no pun intended, just kidding here. But really isn't my personal view for the thing. Back in the old times, Mechs were not Caterpillars, they were war machines.. an advanced, faster and fortified way to deal with hostiles in a battlefield. Surely not robots that you control from your own body movements (wooot??) They were piloted with a joystick, like any other "vehicle".

So, let me get it straight: if Mechs are able to jump around, pick things up, go for melee strikes, and move swiftly and elegantly.. won't it be just another FPS? What will make it differ from a Modern Warfare 3 or Battlefield 4? Oh right, Mechs don't bleed (not sure anymore lool).

I would love a Mech Simulator, where you'll have to practice just to make it walk, like you would have to before riding anything else new. Wouldn't it be amazing if a pilot could make a Mech trip over just for messing with it's moving physics? Like, changeing directions @ speed would definetly make such machines quite unstable right? Awww forget it.. im preaching the wrong crowd here looool.
Whatever is coming from Piranha crew can't be bad! I was just hopeing this would go Simulation all the way, but from most i read around, many would rather punch Mechs with their metal fists and than pick the flowers from the ring XD

If that's the case... well, this might be of interest too ->

.

Not to me thou... Mechs should be Simulated, not turned into another (armored) first-person-shooter :D

Will see.. thanks anyhow. And really sorry about my english :) cheers

i like mechs to be multi-functional on and off the battlefield. hands/claws can do that for you. also it would suck if you fell over and had to push yourself back up with a gun barrel. imagine the logistics in realigning the sighting afterwords

Actual, mechs have always been known for physical combat... but it seems you've only been introduced to them via the video games (which I think of as Battletech-lite.)

Pardon me but, aren't Mechs too humanized? From an old activision MW lover point of view, these MWO machines seem a bit too humanized. The way they stand @ the pics, their body parts (some do seem to wear diapers?? *Atlas). And what about having fingers?? What are they for in a giant metal war machine? Unless you get a key assigned to the midle finger and the 'up yours' correspondent animation (hint) what else could possible justify them? And i could go on with hands, arms, eyes and mouths... i mean, come on, battle mechs, IMHO are supposed to be raw.. "simple" guns-on-legs machines. They should be like vertical tanks or something that you "drive", and not robots, right? Giving them human resemblances turns them more cute Transformers rather than frightening Battle Mechs i think. Yes, alright, not all have those "appendices", but still.. This is a transformer http://betow.files.w...ansformers3.jpg This is a Battle Mech http://media.moddb.c.../8528/67764.jpg Just to keep you focused ;) Can't wait for it to come Live thou. Keep it up Piranhas :D

I disagree:
If you look at a lot of the old mech designs (Like OLD mech designs from the 1990s), most of them have fists. The Atlas has had hands since the beginning, the Kodiak has huge claws for Close range Combat. Its a design thing. Also Mechwarrior Mechs are far from humanized. Armored core mechs are humanized with human legs, arms, and heads. Mechwarrior Mechs are walking tanks of destruction that can carry heavy guass cannons that punch through enemy armor like tissue paper.

Plus Armored Core mechs rely on shields and flying around a lot. Mechwarrior mechs rely on bare armor and brute force :)

Battlemechs have always been able to perform melee attacks, grab things, and pick them up. But they can't typically jump without the aid of Jump Jets, and they typically aren't agile enough to tapdance. So they're not quite humanlike, but neither are they as stiff and mechanical as, say, modern constructionh equipment; Battlemechs are capable of a bit more fluidity in their movements but they won't be breakdancing across the battlefield.

Neurohelmets have been around in Battletech since the very beginning.

Like I said above - I wouldn't describe a battlemech's movement as "elegant", and they don't jump or roll around like anime mecha, but they are capable of a bit more than a simple vehicle. Otherwise - why not build bigger tanks?

The uses of hands on the battlefield are innumerable. From salvage and logisitical aid, to getting up after a fall or righting a friendly vehicle, to prying apart the third storey of a building filled with enemy infantry that you're standing right next to.

1) Yes mechs have being able to punch, kick, duck around corners and smash people or things with debris. Entire succession wars have mechs acting as harvesters or thieves, where they use their hands to grab the stuff and run like crazy.

2) As for why not build bigger tanks ? Blame inferno SRMs. ;)
If inferno SRMs did not one shot vehicles that easily, there will be far more vehicles than mechs, considering that vehicles don't generate heat when using ballistics or missiles !

Welcome to MechWarrior!

Battlemechs have a human appearance because of the neurohelm used by their pilots. This helmet permits the mech to respond exactly how the mechwarrior's own body would respond to his thoughts.

Oh, and I'm trying to give you the benefit of the doubt that you really are new to MechWarrior/BattleTech lore and not just some troll.

Pretty much that. Operating a human analogue is intuitive as you don't have to control limbs that you haven't grown up with.
