I've heard a lot of good things about it, but thought I'd get a second opinion. What do you guys use? Any other options that are just as good but cheaper?

1st one: Mouse wheel stopped working altogether or would randomly scroll up and down, right mouse button would stop working randomly.
2nd/current one: Side thumb buttons randomly stop working until you smack the side of the mouse a few times.

and that is the correct answer
Tom's didn't call the G502 "hands-down the best all-purpose gaming mouse on the market" for nothing. It is, and reviews pretty much all agree it's the best or one of the best. It's absurdly customizable, has a stupidly high resolution sensor (optical, so no acceleration issues), the ergononmics and build quality are a notch above even by logitech's standards, and it's cheaper than $90, so it fits the budget nicely.
It's going to have pros and cons vs the Roccat design/function-wise, but it's going to have the better sensor/tracking.

And here is vote #4 for the Logitech G502 "Proteus Core".
I recently needed a replacement for my venerable G500 after about 5 years of heavy use, and I do not regret the purchase.
The only drawback is that it is not made for large hands.
Edit: Technically vote #5, there was another reply while I was typing this.

But the Proteus is in my near future, so another vote for that one.

This is the mouse I currently use to game with. Great for MWO, WoW, STO, EvE and Scarlet blade.
I have the 11 and 12 button set for my arty strike and UAV. and having 3,4,5 easily accessable makes designating fire real easy. I have had the mouse for a year and has been pretty good to me.

do you have problems in game when running it wireless?
When I run it wireless it will cause a problem like button sticking...meaning that when in a drop, i'll be moving, then lose all control of my mech for a few seconds....if I was turning, it will keep turning or if i was simply moving in a straight line..i'll keep moving that way...
I don't have that problem if take out the wireless receiver and plug the cord in to the computer....

First, I am currently using a G700s and see no reason to change but....
I have a RAT7. Great mouse and LOVE the sniper mode, but simply not enough buttons on it for me. On my G700s I have my engine override, my UAV, my arty strike and can still have 6 wpns groups mapped, so as I said, not enough buttons on the RAT7. I also have a G500 I used to carry around with the laptop when I played with it, but I do not see a reason to go away from the G700. Fobhopper shows a cool mouse but honestly, my fingers don't work well enough to know I am hitting the right buttons with what I have, so adding 8 more to the side on the mouse would surely cause me to overheat.
The ROCCAT intrigues me, and I would love to have a couple "right side" buttons to work with at some point in the future.

I own a ROCCAT Kone XTD. I LOVE this thing, it is so comfy, and has asjustable weight that actually are noticable when you add/remove. has one of those "shift" thumb buttons, which allows you to set up two functions for each button, thumb button shift key toggles back and forth. basically, for MWO, i can set up 4 triggers just using left and right mouse buttons. Additional thumb button on the side is my standard trigger 3.
Software from Roccat lets you do anything you can imagine to the mouse, and DPI is adjustable to 6 presets(that you set up in software to whatever you want) on the fly with buttons on the mouse itself.
Bonus: it has fancy neon lights running up both sides, and they change colors, and if you get fancy the software will tie the colors to the game you are running.
it is better then the Razer stuff in function and quality IMO, the only other one I would even consider is Logitec, because I like their keyboards so much.

I have to be honest... I just went to wal-mart and seen this mouse out on the shelf and was able to touch it, feel it and it feels freaking awesome! I have a perixx MX2000II right now, and It has been a awesome gaming mouse, but the extra buttons on this one really seem like they would come in very handy in MWO. I have to agree, my next mouse will most likely be this one.
