Why aren't the maps on the training grounds section so we can romp around all we want looking for bad geometry etc?

Just make a version of each with no turrets and the gates open and random mechs here and there, and let any one that wants to drop in, run around and report terrain holes and collsion issues etc.

I know there is a lot of focus on the actual combat/objective side. but with supposedly lots of map in the pipeline, putting them into training ground ON RELEASE would allow people to test them easily, right off the bat, so PGI can get them smoothed out right away and move on.

just a thought, it is the only way you could test the actual map terrain without getting shot and or interfering with other players fun time.

Actually, you could already do this. In the first week or so from when CW launched, if you went to the testing grounds and selecting "Random" you actually had a high probability of getting one of the two CW maps, and yes, there were no turrets and I believe there were mechs sitting around that you could shot.

But then they secretly ninja-patched that out and I don't think you can do it anymore.

It's a shame, all they'd have to do is practically flip a switch to get them listed in the Training Grounds and for private matches, I don't know why they don't do that.

Wow CW maps could be accessed from training grounds if you selected random. That says a lot...

They're protecting us.

From all the other 1 dimensional attack/defend tactics that could be figured out if the l33ts had free roam privileges of the CW maps. lol

This can already be accomplished via Ghost drops or Pug stomps to be honest and it often has been.

because the maps are so bad they just want you to forget about them.

Or you could just turret drop to learn the maps. That's what my Unit did the first week or so until out CW pilots had a good feel for the terrain. It was basically like dropping on testing grounds, but with a lot of stationary Light Mechs shooting at you.

lol

I should have guessed people would presume I mean as a way to learn the maps.

No, I mean, as a way to test the maps, as in, find holes in the geometry, find the places where phantom walls block shots, etc. maybe there arent many people that would do it, but there are SOME, and some actually enjoy that type of thing.

So I just was wondering why PGI didnt take an afternoon with one guy's time and put them on training grounds so those few people that actually enjoy trying to find glitches could do some really thorough terrain testing for them, for free.

Really, it is related to the whole community resources thing, you know, where you could have the games community actually contributing to the games progress, through testing primarily, but if a good program gets put in place other things later.
