Ok please forgive my ignorance.. but I've read a few posts that give me the idea that this is strictly pvp matches.

I can't see how a game can survive without pve content, leveling and such.. typical grind levels.. Does MWO have pve content?

I know I'm asking this having bought the legendary founders pac.. doesn't stray from my desire to play it.. just wondering about the entire scope.

Navy Field is an example of a game that is just about all pvp. It's survived a long time. Tribes is new but is doing very well as all pvp. I think it depends on the framing of the game more than whether there is pve deciding success of the game. BF1942 had a pve element, but I never used it, etc . . .

Yes this game will be PVP only at the start, although some Dev´s mentioned that maybe at a later date ther could be some PvE added.
But dont get your hopes up high this will if it happens take a long while.

They have concidered addint PvE in the future but first they want to get the game itself going and balancing everything.
Furthermore there is leveling and experience yes, but not in the way you might think.

Grinding yourself to max level won't give you a huge advantage that nobody can overcome. Just 10% better heatsinks for example at such high levels.
Maybe 10-12% higher maximum speed....stuff like that.

To begin with no ... not according to the Devs.

I am constantly amazed at people who think PvP isn't that common or successful. It's the natural order of things, and while those that lose consistently and horribly may quit there are tons of people who thrive on the challenge.

This game is nothing but PVP. It will last decades because of the number of people that have been waiting for it.

I am hoping for some kind of campaign or or at least PvE scenario missions that is entirely Co Op vs A.I. I mean all you would have to do is copy missions from previous games... like that final neutral ending mission in MW4 Mercs. That was really fun and would be so again in a Co Op. It doesn't have to be a "Campaign" so much as Co Op scenarios.

Sadly they haven't said anything about such though so I doubt the game is going to ship with any kind of PvE content oncesoever. All they've said is "We'll consider it after release". One thing at a time, I suppose.

Decades? Doubt it. But it will be very popular for at least a decade to come, especially if they keep adding new Mechs, weapons, and maps as the timeline goes forward.

PvP only I'm afraid (although it may be an option in the future but not at launch).

However, I can assure you that plenty of games survive very well without PvE - look at League of Legends or Tribes: Ascend they are closer approximation for how things will work in terms of game design than a traditional MMO which I'm guessing is what you're thinking of.

I always wonder about games that don't have any PVE... I know nothing about programming computer games, is it hard to add bots? Is that a complex feat of programming? ... :)

Belive me.. I'm all for pvp.. I would like to see this MWO be nothing but... However concerned that battles.. or matches are tied up to a time frame durration rather than defeating of an entire enemy force. Then a long que awaits to get back into the next match.. or will you just drop in and start banging away with friends.

Personnaly, i hope for some PVP campaigns to claim planets for example. It may take the form of several missions linked together which depend if the previous missions are successful or not.

And, of course, to visualize the whole, beautiful star map :)

Indeed it is, unless they are very stupid and will just march in to die. But either way it is worth it and would be fun. I could think of tons of scenario Co Op missions... but I don't need to, as you could just rip them out of MW 4 Mercs. Attack a base, defend a base, attack a convoy, defend a convoy, etc.

Fyi League of Legends has Co Op. In fact there's 2 different maps for it and with 2 different difficulty settings. The enemy bots are also well coded to use around 45 different heroes. They are also rather challenging for new players, proving the success of the mode. Just thought I'd put those facts out there.

Well seeing as even most single player games dont have a good AI. I would say it is not one of the easiest feats done. Most bots have to cheat in some way to be competitive with human players.
But i really would like to see some coop missions too.

Yeah, I would expect until the game is balanced it will be a leveling PvP game like WoT is. Random, Lance, Contract? matches where you earn XPs and C-Bills to increase you pilot and bling out your mech. You can create a team lance with firends and join battles in groups of four and play for objectives salvage?

I find this to be an addictive play style and I like the 15min or so intervals between breaks, it does lack in persistence and the feel of overall scope. I, like you want to feel like I am in the Inner Sphere, not just blowing people away on the same random maps over and over again.

WoT has "Clan Wars" which is a strategic meta game that adds some persistence to this. I could see something like that developing after the game gets started.

We shall see....but speculation is fun :-)

Check World of tanks, u grind in pvp battles for credits, and experience, that let you purchase new weapons and/or tanks (in this case, Mechs) that then u play to upgrade and get anothers ones etc etc etc.
Its the same grind as allways, just is managed in a different way than on PvE games.

I wouldn't be surprised if the clan invasion is handled in a PVE capacity at least at first. While I am cool with the PVP aspect of the game, it would be nice to have some PVE capabilities. At a minimum, the ability to test out your mechs vs bots after modifying them etc.

Yes Co Op vs Clans would be awesome.

It's not that I don't want the PvP to be as good as it can be... I just want both. I'm the kind of guy that enjoys both PvP content and PvE content in my MMO. There's no rules stating that you can't.

It was also a very recent addition to the game they've been toiling away on for a while. PGI could get there, but it won't be soon.
