Frankly I have to agree with the sentiments that this is tantamount to trying to extort community... and when they become sensitive that community is thinking that, they will actually make this silly mech valid... even competitive by giving it a HUGE engine cap, which is my worst fear.

By and large it is a **** mech (And supposed too), it supposed to be slow slogging city fighting mech with an ac to fend for itself... if they make it go speeds of Panther or beyond, I am worried, they bend over backwards to get enough people onboard with this.

I can respect people wanting urbie because it is urbie, for shits and giggles... but if it goes they way of firestarter... I will be sorely disappointed.

My worst fear I have to buy this trashcan, because in some weird way, it becomes overtly valid mech.
But I hate urbie.

Nothing to do with extorting anyone. If people want it, as has been stated, Russ is saying prove it. Those who don't want it, don't need to do a thing. Those that claim they do, need to man up.

Only thing it does for the rest of the community, is proves or disproves that the playerbase will back up their talk. If it succeeds, it means PGI will be more inclined to listen to specific "demands" in the future. Idealism is great, but money makes MWO happen.

As a general rule, the playerbase NEVER backs up their talk. There was a really good presentation lately that went into that in great detail, between the number of "I quit" posts and a number of other factors.

I'm hoping that the Urbanmech is the exception that proves that rule. :D

exactly. Last time we were given a chance, ECM talks turned into butthurt politicking, cults of personality and attempts to sabotage the game further by some of those who had "seen the light" on their second chance.

So gee, yeah, wonder why Russ doesn't take much on faith?

(Though gotta ask, where has I steered him wrong before, lol?)

The community has been pushing for this for a long time

These forums opened on Nov. 1st, 2011.

One of the threads created on Nov. 1st, 2011 was this: Petition for UrbanMech.

So yeah, the community has indeed been pushing for this for a long time - as long as it has been a community at all.

That it has taken PGI over three years to understand that yes, we DO want the Urbie, is mindbogglingly flabbergasting.

I will buy Urbies if they announce the engine cap to be at least 180. If under, I probably won't.

Now I am no crazy Urbie Fan but a 180 minimum Engine? Really? A Spider (30t) with a 180 runs at 97kph (before tweaks). If PGI allows the UrbanMech to run that fast and have a GUN. Even I will scream P2W from the rafters.

A 97kph Urbie? THE STUPIDEST THING EVER!

For giggles and all things remaining as they should.

This Mech, as you state is not fast. http://www.sarna.net...Fox_%28Uller%29

This Mech, from the same Listing source states this for this Mech: http://www.sarna.net/wiki/UrbanMech

Ravens who are technicly "slow" lights can also go at paste 120km/h yet nobody complain about that.

Now, people don't want the Urbanmech to be also a fast little fùcker for the fun? It's not like he could use his AC/20 with the engine.

Personatly I know I will keep it slow... And probably replace the Small laser with a PPC and change the ballisct weapons for MG.

Not saying it should not be faster, more than normal limits, but if it becomes 100+ urbie... well to me it is an abomination. Urbie is the cityfighter.. sure, give it quicker acc/dec, that works for city environment.. but for chrissake keep some things sacret
:(

It does seem that the P2W crowd will indeed WIN this one with their PAY... ;)

P.S. Still on the fence. 97kph? really...it just don't seem right is all.

It's almost as if nearly everybody customizes their Battlemechs beyond stock at least somewhat.

Since the Fox is an Omnimech it doesn't get this choice, that's the downside of having swappable hardpoints (and, for the moment, it also somewhat balances out Clan tech goodness).

We were 1/3rd of the way there as of last night around 6ish Pacific time.

To me that means they set the internal goal at around 250,000 Urbanmech packages sold to get it released, if my math is right.

It depends on what mech building rules they follow.

If they use the 1.4 x STD then you end up with a STD 90 as a limit. Which is still really really slow (48kph?).

If they try to make it as fast as a spider then you are looking at 240 to 285 as a limit.

I'd be satisfied with something in the 180 to 220 or 240 range. At the low end, that would limit its speed to under 100 (which is slow for IS light mechs) but still supply decent maneuverability while the higher end would still be slower than/equal to the stock spider.

They may be making it as something of a niche mech requested by fans but there is no reason to make it completely useless. Also, keep in mind that it won't be able to effectively equip double heat sinks unless it can fit larger engines. 9 DHS is 27 slots which will take up a lot of the available crit space.

Anyway, I would not expect PGI to make it OP ... but on the other hand I don't see any reason for them not to make it viable ... most IS stock mech loadouts are very sub-par. The urbie is just a particularly good example of a bad stock layout :)

I find it interesting that neither the pre-order page nor the question and answer give any indication that fulfillment is dependent on the number ordered.

https://mwomercs.com/urbanmech
http://mwomercs.com/...-urbanmech-faq/

Q: When will I receive my UrbanMech?

A: April 7th 2015 is the currently-scheduled release date for the UrbanMech (and its associated content).

There is no IF in this question and answer related to whether or not development is "funded" by sufficient pre-orders or not.

Also, the 360 degree target retention module would seem to complement the 360 degree torso twist ... until you note that the Urbie has no missile hard points and retaining a lock doesn't do much otherwise.

Finally, does the 360 torso twist mean it can spin the torso in place or does it mean that it can traverse between +/- 180? ... Personally I like the spinning torso version but I don't know if that will take more to implement.

P.S. I am waiting for PGI to put out a bit more information before making a purchasing decision ... particularly regarding max engine caps ... but I will likely buy one if only for the lol factor :)

according to the FAQ they haven't fully decided on the look of the special variant. So they could change it to a Deputy Dawg urbie.
