...and challenge the pilot [NAME] of the [MECH], to a duel of warriors. In this solemn matter let no one interfere!

Would you accept?
Would you cease fire - when some one else is challenged?
Or would you hide your fear behind the words - Its a war game?

How to "invoke" it fast?

the defenders will rejoice! since the attackers loose time waiting for the duel to end...

had a couple of duels in public matches, in CW it might only work in premade 12 on12 drops, not in pug matches

As fun as this would be. This would only work if it was towards a clanner...

and the thing is that everyone who is a player in MW: O is a inner sphere person. Just fighting under a certain banner.

I am no more a clanner then a lone wolf, a merc corps, or a player under davion or kurita flags.

I am all fun for roleplaying and doing a private match zellbringing. I already do that regularly. But it won't happen in public matches.

Would surely be a nice RP experience. Especially with more traditional IS houses, like Kurita.

Sadly the game mechanics dont really support it.

I like the RP aspect. And i would follow it like described.

But i have some doubts if all players would accept these terms.

Yes, I would accept a challenge. I have fought in one - on - one duels before.

others don't have to wait - the battle around is waging on - but only 11 vs 11.
question is where to fight?
I ask because i fought from time to time my personal duels - and often it is interrupted by others.
But because its sometimes so fast - you don't recognize the name of the other.

Call me nuts - but from time to time i remember a name - and would ignore any one else - to search the other guy.
Oh i would also fight him in the next wave - or when ever i see him/her again.

To invoke "zell" - or a "duel" would a sign of respect - this game need more respect between players.
Of course it could be abused for tactical maneuvers.

I've been in one match where this happened... and it was glorious.

The coolest part is that the initial challenge sparked 4 more 1v1 challenges. So there was actually 5 duels going on at once.

In the end every duel participant was dead or so beat up that they may as well have been and the rest of us faced off 9v7 to finish the match. Our team with 7 remaining ended up beating the 9 due to better focus firing.

One of the coolest matches I've ever dropped in and the RP was fun without being too corny.

I issued challenges in my first couple CW drops against Ghost Bears.

Got no response.

challenged again.

Got no response.

pointed out that there were no clanners, just pretenders in the game apparently and was told something along the lines of "We'll play like clans when they unnerf our mechs" and "QQ more"

If PGI doesn't incentivize playing within the roles you are in (clans, IS), then no one will follow the "rules". So all we have are IS players running around in whatever mechs they want.

Your a bit late to the party. Our Unit has done many duels while in CW. Knowing the pug will get stomped we offer them duels to make it more fun for them and us. CW comes 2nd when a duel is accepted hehe.

In public matches I could see it being interered with but hey, u can still try it.

I would LOVE for Zellbrigen to be a thing, just so I could violate it.

i've thought about throwing out a challenge to clanners if i ever ended up the last mech on our side but the only time that's happened has been in IS vs IS matches.

I've had Clanners say this several times, especially when there's only a couple Clanners left and the IS clearly won the match.

Every single time, without fail, it was a lie and a trick to try and get all the IS defenders to not watch Omega.

I've never had someone say this sincerely, in every match I've played and seen it come up.

I believe the main thing to keep in mind is that during combat the default is that All chat is turned off so an acceptance of Zell may not happen as it went unnoticed by the enemy. If however it was enabled by default then we might see more Zells happening.

In a Smoke Adder 12-man, at the end of the match if it is largely a decided fight, we will gladly form a circle of equals and fight 1 on 1 with someone who asks for Zellbrigen.

You might kill a couple and it will be a fun way to close out the match.

Now the question is, once you've lost, would you honor being taken as a Bondsman, leaving your unit, and join the unit of the person who won?
