I love this idea and I have already created it in MegaMek. I also really enjoy the back stories you build for these variants. Keep up the good work!

nice story.

but those PPC's like that look a lot liek they would very much hinder the field of view of the pilot. thy would make a bit more sense by being just above the hips. this would allow him to see whats going on on the sides by being able to see over the ppc's

Naw pilots have sensors and stuff to help them see stuff.
Good work bishop! I like how you used the old ppc barrels instead of the ones ingame for the k2 catapult

when the urbanmehc is amde to protect a city and probably also be for ivilian protections ervices, I doubt he can overwatch the scene, or is every human (soldier) on the scanners?

Why couldn't they be? If there is a radar for mechs, why can't there be one for people?
Spoiler

because a human is smaller and may not have trackable signals unless you may use a full spherical thermal scanner. but even then you may not see what the one there does and even less would it probably be to determine friend and foe. If you even can identify it as a human in a city under war where maybe many other thermal signals do happen.

I would call it House of Fire. Imagine 12 of them standing the line, releasing inferno on the opposing forces. :P

Not really. The sensor dome sits above, and many vehicles have a restricted view with eyeballs mk i. To put them above the hips exposes much more of the mech to return fire, and makes it easier to spot on the battlefield. Thus reducing survivability greatly.

First question, with 2 PPCs and their 90meter deadzone, how much anti-personnel work do you think it is meant for?

Reread the fluff. This is not meant to replace the standard Urbies, Firestarters, Stingers and Vulcans which do the bulk of city defense, but supplement it.

basically just copied the pod PPCs off the TBR-D, honestly

while true for mwo, in the urban combat where you fight between streets or probably wanna shoot on targets lower in cover (think the first floor of a house, or basements of houses. they would be better when lower mounted.

and when not for urban warfare well it would suck because of the speed xD

Yep and how many Humans will be carrying weapons capable of bringing down a battlemech? And at that close it isn't that hard to just step on the bugger.

in a whole warfare where they may have laserrifles or rocket launcher? enough I would say.

well, man pack inferno launcher will mess up anyones day.

But it's a matter of right tool for the job. WWII Tank Destroyer was not designed to combat infantry, aircraft, etc. Just kill tanks.

Pocket Awesomes "mission" is in it's name. A lance of them was the cost of a single assault mech, and you still had money left over..... So for less money than a lance of 3025 HEavies and Assaults, you coul dbuild a company like this:

4 Urbanmechs
4 Pocket Awesomes
1 Vulcan
1 Firestarter
1 Panther
1 Hunchback

which would be a very effective urban defense force, for the money, more so than 3-4 heavier units would be. And 2 good volleys from the Pocket Awesome Lance will down an Atlas, even.

since they have shoulder actuators, the "lower" thing is subjective. Also Urbanmechs stand about 6.5 to 7 meters tall. At the hips would not clear the ground floors/ceiling structures/roofs of most 1 Story buildings.

Believe it or not, I did think about these things.

Heh, that's cool. I've been playing around with MegaMek toying with custom Urbies.

Came up with the UM-RAD.

FLUFF POWERS ACTIVATE!

Commissioned by the FWLM, this UrbanMech variant began life as a simple test platform for new technologies redeveloped from the Helm Memory Core but quickly became a viable light air defense platform and escort mech.

Though the Small Laser and jump jets are retained, the heavy autocannon is replaced by a Diverse Optics Large Pulse Laser and a Delta Dart LRM 5 launcher in the right and left arms respectively. The LRM launcher is linked to an Artemis IV fire control system and one ton of reloads are carried in the left torso.

To make room for these upgrades, five and a half tons of Ferro Fibrous armour has been installed, one heat sink has been removed and the rest upgraded to double strength models. Furthermore, the free weight allowed the Leenix 60 engine to be upgraded to the reliable and commonly available GM 120 model, increasing the mech's speed to 64.8 km/h.

Though the mech performed well in combat trials, the prevalence of more affordable anti-air combat vehicles in the League's arsenal precluded the model's adoption.

As àrt of my Urbie Celebration, I thought I would try to bring to life some of the many wacky, wonderful and downright absurd Urbie variations I came up with over the course of a 20 year Urbanmech campaign. (No promises about the Urbie LAM, but I might knock out the Shahid and Fire Support Variants)

This one, is nicknamed the "Pocket Awesome".
Posted Image

It's the product of the FedSuns Military Industrial Complex of the late 3030s/early 3040s. Originally it was a test mule for the new NAIS Double Heat Sinks, and Ferro-Fibrous Armor. A few nobles from the Draconis March liked the idea though, and financed a short run of refits on their existing Urbanmech forces.

Taking a base UM-R60, the mech was stripped to it's bare chassis, and a DAV 90 fusion plant installed, increasing it's top speed to 54.6 kph. Retained were the stock jumpjets, though they were moved to the side torsos to free up room for the larger engine. In place of the stock 6 tons of armor, are 4.5 tons of Ferro-Fibrous, netting in slightly less overall protection, but with the intended role, and lack of volatile ammunition supply, it was deemed an acceptable trade off. The familiar light laser was moved from the left arm over to the head or center torso, depending on preference. And in place of the medium-heavy autocannon, 2 Donal PPCs were installed, 1 in each arm. Keeping their fierce heat in check? 10 of the new Double Heat Sinks.

The idea of having the punch of a Warhammer or Marauders twin PPCs, in such a small package was intoxicating. But even better, was the price. Brand new, they cost a scant 1.8 million to produce, but if it was a refit, it cost less than 1 million cbills per unit. Compared to the price of 6.5 million for a single AWS-8Q Awesome, and it was too tempting.

While certainly no replacement for an actual assault mech, they proved useful. 3-4 could be purchased for the price of a single Awesome, providing 2-3 times the firepower. While their armor protection is obviously MUCH lighter, the fact that one had to destroy multiple targets help alleviate that. Also, the weapons were intentionally high mounted to allow the new UrbanMechs to fire easily from armored defilades, for minimal exposure. Lastly, their jump jets give a little extra mobility.

As the 3050s approached, they were already being obsoleted by newer, more heavy designs using the new tech, and by the Clan Invasion, they were relegated purely to backwater militia status with the rest of the Urbanmechs, but for a few brief years, the Pocket Awesome got to shine in several engagements against Pirates and Combine forces who were not prepared for 30 ton garbage cans with legs to pack so much firepower.

But this urbie was modded for snipping and long range combat, at such distance forground visibility is not relevant.
