Hello

we have had founder pack, pheonix mech packs, clan wave 1, wave 2, resistance packs and now single exclusive mech. and if i am not wrong it will be a bit like.. suggest a mech (whcih gets more votes and pre-orders wewill make it)..now this is all good as it brings in money..

from my understanding the devs dont bring out maps faster as they dont give them money so here is my suggestion.

3 Maps for the Price of $30.

they work on the similar format as that of mech packs.. i.e. they get released to the people who payed at an earlier date and then come out for the rest of the community later on (just as mechs are being done atm). people who have paid for the map packs get to play them on the server.

Now some of you might find it a stupid idea but tbh for me the game is quite boring after so many years due to the lack of maps. tactics, choke points and all similar things are now known about existing maps and thats all thats been played over and over again. WE NEED A LOT MORE MAPS.

so whats your point about paid maps packs??

Yes? No? reason?

thats what i am suggesting as well.. you pay for the map pack you along with all other similar to you will be able to play on those maps on both regular and CW server (if that is possible)

the difference will be you will have access to it lets say three months in advance then the rest of non paid players.

from PGIs part its revenue and they can put all that money in making the maps.

just for test purposes they can even start something like that urbie pre-order thing.. put out 3 map concepts, get votes on it, which ever has more votes put it up for funding/ buying for 2 weeks and then develop it.

Pfft... I open my wallet just for random weather effects on our existing maps.

I'd pay double if they affected our sensors, LoS and targeting.

map packs for money are a bad idea, to be true.

If you buy an exclusive mech, you can still play with people who didn't buy it. But if you buy an exclusive map, only other buyers can play with you.

That splits the player queue again, nothing you really want.

This.

I had this issue with Halo, CoD and BF where I'd buy maps but not be able to play with my friends or sometimes I'd just never see these maps because the pop wasn't high enough. MWO would be even worse at splitting queues

Can you imagine how long the wait will be when you have only a fraction of the population we have able to play on them?

Nice concept, but no thank you.

You shouldn't split the community. This may work in Payday 2, you still can join if the host has the DLC (free to join). But this won't work in MWO or other similar projects (like WOT).

Why are people queuing up to pay for something that should just be in the game? It's in PGI's best interests to keep things fresh and retain players, and maps go a long way towards that. In addition as mentioned, splitting the playerbase is foolish. A final point: $30 for only 3 maps? Really?

Mechs are fine as a (currently very profitable) revenue stream. Why you are clamouring to be subjected to the shady DLC practices other companies employ I'll never know.

Splitting the community...terrible option with the current size. I'd rather see a kickstarter for the map pack. Tell us what it costs to make it. If it reaches it then hire extra team members to build the maps. If it reaches past the cost then add stretch goals to get more maps.

the last info about that was USD 250,000 for a map :P so a kickstarter wont work.

as for the rest saying community will split...well tbh we dont have such a huge community and whats availalbe is purchases almost everything..and thats the major chunk of the community that is, so i am pretty much sure map packs will be purchased by large portion of community.

$30 for 3 maps...well if you can make people purchase $35 for a single mech and its variants (which are cosmetic changes) then ya $30 for 3 maps...it can be reduced or increased, but thats not for me to decide.

Paid maps bad idea...

well idk the last map came like 2 months ago..the next two map variants that are coming are for CW and not for normal queue (unless i have missed something) and the pace at which maps are developed (because they dont generate revenue for them) which is very very slow, i see no other alternative. if you have one please share with us..

cause community made maps is not happening...

BAD IDEA. NOT JUST BAD. BAD BAD. Don't attempt to make this game's players even more whinier. Plus this is NOT, I repeat, NOT one of those FPS like Halo or Call of Duty or Battlefield. Mechwarrior has always had maps for everyone. The only thing they really ever did is release mechs in MW 4 and missions and campaigns for the older Mechwarrior games. And they were single player games.

Paying for maps is dumb and you should feel dumb for encouraging it.

It would be better to open community map making. You can always have a opt in button for community maps, if a player does not want to download these maps.

I miss map making.

Ditto, which is why you should get mw 4 and then mechwarrior editor so that you can make your own maps. Community maps are a thing trying to be pressed on, but it wouldn't be good. Remember Mechwarrior: living legends....

I nominate this for "Worst Idea of the Decade" and would rather pledge my $30 toward a STRONG DISLIKE button.

The day they charge for maps will be the day I uninstall and not look back. Things are over priced as it is like I did buy the Resistance pack for $100+ what ever to give me 12 new mechs and goodies but I will only spend roughly that much on gaming every year and MWO ate that in one chunk. I can't fathom spending more for content than what an entire game should cost to start with.

I will not be putting any fuel funds into someones luxury yacht this season, game over. I might just haft to go outside and play now.

Ah I see, so you would like mwo to be developed like pgi's space game.
Base pledge - Hanger with a poster.

Stretch goal #1 - Combat.
Stretch goal #2 - Ships.
Stretch goal #3 - A game.

The game needs maps, and more 'game'. Pgi knows this and are finally doing something about it.

First off - that $250,000/map number people keep throwing around was from a long time ago when they still had to design new map assets for each "map type." Now that they've got a bunch they can reuse, I'm certain that cost has gone down significantly.

Second - according to Russ, we should start to see new maps on a near-monthly basis, so development of them is already ramping up.

Third - paid map packs will only split an already small and segregated playerbase. This would have MASSIVE impacts on the Matchmaker's (already strained) ability to make even teams. It's a terrible idea.
