It seems there is difficulty explaining to the populace the folly of unfettered faction joining and the utter lack of accountable diplomacy.

Anyone feel like making a 12man to make the point?

Requirements:
Time (you don't necessarily need to play MWO, just get into queue and go play some Xbox or a different computer game.. or surf the web, do chores, etc..)

Not giving a rat's *** about your stats. (some factions may defend against the breach of NAP/Alliance if they catch it.. you do not necessarily need to actually fight the matches- though I would leave that choice up to you...you've accomplished your mission of diverting their players from actual intended fronts.)

No fear, or even better; a love of forum vitriol from impotent clan/house units that have no recourse to stop you.

I really don't understand the point of this thread. Speaking for myself, I don't have nearly as much time to drop as I'd like. Why waste it pretending to be some other faction to troll the map or create losses for a certain faction?

You apparently have so little time that you could not read the 1st or last line of the OP.

I can see the problem with large populations shifting around each week. Especially if they were to organize on a certain objective: breaking alliances, intentionally losing planets, hitting targets from multiple fronts, etc.

I think the faction wide grouping removes some of the reason for smaller units to join under the same banner, but there still is not much reason to stick with a faction outside of wanting that faction to do well. I don't like the idea of trying to tie mercs down with longer contracts as much as I like giving people a reason to stick with a faction.

Anyways, I hope your experiment goes well, but I feel bad for the victim.

Lack of tangible resource costs for committing units will always result in a lack of accountability for poor behavior.

Is why I don't like the "spy" argument for players AFK dead dropping as enemy units...such behavior has no realistic or checks and balances, it's no risk all reward because there is no cost to endure to execute, no investment lost when found out, no time & space constraints to regulate it, no limits to manufactoring the ploy en mass.

I'm not against a properly applied espionage feature, I'm not against real players infiltrating enemy units and providing real intel, but being able to feign a whole detachment of mechs, it's logistics, it's personnel, etc, etc, as enemy agents deploying and doing nothing is hog wash. Any detection of inactivity should warrant significant costs on those performing these acts...at the very least, disqualifying the outcome of that match.

If teh forces fighting across the boarder are Mercs... can't they fight for who ever will pay the contract?

This I will agree with. Having no ability to attack the folks trying to undermine the House is kinda bad. If someone is acting like a spy or saboteur I would like to have the ability to drop against them and stop them.

Couldn't people who are so into this just do exactly what the offender is doing and make accounts with the Faction being attacked and drop against them? Or does that require action on the player when they would rather foist it off on PGI. Seems like a perfect case for adapt and over come no?

They could... but that isn't as satisfying stopping a spy/saboteur as a house loyal. I don't want to be a Davion to stop a Steiner turn coat.

Thus I leave that choice up to them. (I do not advocate AFK dropping, but I do advocate AFK queue sitting...once the battle starts, I'd put up at least a paltry effort for the amusement.. but the mission would already by complete.)

Doesn't exactly solve the issue of diversion of resources away from the faction's overall mission. (as a matter of fact.. it increases the burden on the faction itself.)

Well, if you are making new accounts to open attacks against your enemy on a different front, that is very much the same thing as hiring a super cheap merc to do it, as you are diverting your playtime to the activity, and therefore it is completely fair and justifiable. Not to mention, you are just feeding your enemy easy faction and cbills once they respond.
