Greetings Mechwarriors,

Ok, so I've been playing for awhile now and have been curious about this. I looked for an answer on the forums and nothing I could find came up. So, on the team screens some of the variants have bracketed letters.

So far, I've seen (I), (L), (C), and (S). I would imagine that (C) means Champion. But what are the other ones? (S)pecial and (L)imited edition or (L)egendary...? No clue what the (I) means. Are there also more letters that I haven't seen or remembered to add?

If you don't know exactly what I mean, the names of the mechs read as: the King Crab would be "KGC-0000(L)"

Thanks guys.

(C)hampion
(F)ounders
(P)hoenix
(I)nvasion

The latter three of the above four are all Mechs from packages. I'm assuming when the first wave of the Resistance package mechs drop on February 15th they will be labeled [R]. Only one variant of each mech in a package has received this in the past. Comes with unique geometry as well (which is sometimes bad in the case of the Locust).

The (L) is applied to the customer appreciation King Crab. Should probably be on the Atlas S and Centurion AH as well, but it's not.

Though all of the special package variants are considered "champions" as far as in-game sorting is concerned, they're effectively heroes as they receive c-bill bonuses rather than XP bonuses. However, their more standardized hardpoints leaves them in a grey area in between, so the UI would probably be better served grouping them in another category altogether.

Machinae Mortis covered it pretty succinctly.

Well, the one he missed bears mentioning:

The JR7-D(S) is "Sarah's Jenner." Sarah was the daughter of a MWO player and she died of cancer. The mech was fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society and has decals a little girl might like all over its unique skin. It was one of PGI's finest hours.

Thanks guys for the info. I appreciate the time you took to answer my question. BTW, I thought I saw a (G) hanging around out there too. Any clue what that is?

Missed that. Knew there was one I was missing. That's "Gold." For $500 (yes, really) you could get a Masakari pack and a gold-skinned version of any one prime variant of the Wave I Clan mechs. It's functionally equivalent to an (I) version.

(P) Phoenix
(I) Invasion
(G) Gold
(S) Sarah's Jenner (unless there's another other S's I'm unaware of)

In addition...
There are now letters beside enemy names. One example from CW was Name (CCC) for target designation Charlie Charlie Charlie (or Gamma Gamma Gamma if you're a Clanner).

Designations A through O, then doubles to triples of those are enemy target designations alongside the player name.

This way when "Suchandsuch (D)" dies, you know that target Dog or Delta depending on which IS faction you are (and Delta regardless if you're Clan) has been eliminated.

There is indeed at least one other (S). The fabulous Urbanmech: UM-R63(S), which I'm going to interpret as "Special". It came with the top end Urbie pre-purchase.

Not that the OP asked for it, but the other letters stand for the house where the mech originated. For example AS7-D, the D stands for Davion. S -- Steiner, L -- Liao, K -- Kurita, M -- Marik. A little bit ago PGI had challeneges based on the house mechs that you were driving.
