So I log in today, choose a new faction in my weekly faction round robin, and look at the queue with a profound sense of dissatisfaction.
Six mechs here, another two over there, nothing remotely close to a viable group of twelve I could join to kick off a match.
I gotta be honest, I could care less about the map at this point. Until capturing a planet 'means' something, it doesn't matter to me if one faction or another is getting totally plowed; I just want to fight.
I realize this may bother some of the faction loyalists; the feature I'm going to suggest wouldn't apply to you.
So, given that my motivation is just to find a match. and given that the ultimately everyone agrees that fighting against anyone is better than a turret drop, I suggest that a general 'find me a match' selection be offered.
Order of preference would presumably be:
* Defense of faction planet
* Defense of other available planet
* Attack on world that used to be yours (ie: counterattack)
* Attack on available world
Anyone who wants to continue targeting specific worlds would be free to do so - in fact, this would presumably be necessary to give the matchmaker the 'seed' to try to build a team - but if you have a twelve man facing three on the other side, right now I'm not motivated to try to making it four because I doubt I'll get a match before the clock winds down. If the matchmaker can find enough bodies to make a complete company, however...
This benefits people who don't really care who they fight but enjoy the CW experience, and it *also* benefits the other groups by giving them someone to fight against

10 factions in CW is not something what would ever work..not in this way..So I agree with you..
The best course of action..to somehow help CW is reduce numbers of factions..there are many different ways to do it...however..I think lore geeks will be against it..
but anyway..I agree..it would help.

To clarify, I'm not saying people shouldn't join a faction, just that while I have a general desire for my faction to do well, I don't really care if I'm defending a Kuritan or Steiner or any other world...

this is how many people think about CW right now..and this is why factions in current fashion are a bit overdone..
I am all for factions, families, colors and lore.. However, game should be designed around fact, that players like faction choice but also want play as much CW matches as possible.

Out of curiosity, Are there attack lanes for Marik v Liao or Steiner v Marik? Sure it is teh Clan Invasion that brought many of us here, but there are still House Rivalries that have not died.

I believe that game could easily exists with larger coalitions.. I know..it's against the lore..but keep families how they are but put 3 IS families together...so in IS space..instead 6 factions..you would have two..
there could be still rivalry within coalition..but it could be done in form of events..like we have now..but be more focused on fights between families inside big galactic coalition..
Again..I understand it's what lore guys wont like..but I really think..this alone could improve gameplay and would make much easier to find matches inside the CW..

I understand what you propose, but my question wasn't answered by your interesting proposition.

You can already do this to an extent. The worlds on the clan border always need defending and normally at least one of them has enough people to get a match quickly. The reason I am opposed to this suggestion is that the same problem we have there will now be everywhere. The clan border worlds are full of people who are just dropping solo for cbills and XP. Most will not listen to any sort of plan and will do their own thing. Therefore these teams get consistently rolled. I would rather not have this problem in the rest of the inner sphere as well. I will occasionally drop on the clan border but I usually ask does anyone have a plan and if they do I do my best to accomplish it. On defense it isn't as bad. When you counter attack having even 2 out of the 12 people on your team doing their own thing can ruin you.
