So, I had picked up some shadowhawks a while ago and was terrible with them. I recently started playing them again and am really starting to like them.

So my question is: Is the Grey Death any good? is it worth picking up? What are some good builds in it?

With that shoulder ballistic, 4 energy on fully actuated arms, and the ability to take jumpjets, it's possibly the best AC20 medium in the game.

Well , you are not a new player, so if you played other SHD's , this one is much like it.
As the hardpoints suggest , it's an energy focused SHD arming a single ballistic slot and only 2 missile, one being in the head.
If you want a "super" hero mech that has an advantage as the Dragonslayer has , at least in comparison to other victors , this is not such a mech, as it's hardpoints and there location are not much better than the others.

On the other hand if you like SHD's and are looking for a Cbill grinding machine , the mech can rn the tried and true builds of an jumping AC20 + 3~4 mediums with a standard engine, a gauss + erppc jumpsniper... yes those still work if you know how to, and some other closer range builds such as 4 medpulse and 2xsrm4 and such.

The quirks are trivial and are not focused on anything specific so you are "free" to not take advantage of specific weapons and I think that only 1 ballistic limits the mech, but still a number of other builds still work on it , so it could be a worthwhile grinding platform. Hope this helps.

I would like to just mention to this, it could have been the best AC20 platform , if not for the utter lack of DPS quirks fot the said AC20, as the hunchback 4g with an 25 % cooldown reduction or the BJ-1DC with 20% cdr, also it is true that it can mount 4 mediums + an AC20 while the others can only go as far as 3 , but it is a known heat problem that such a builds struggles with even 3 mediums, as a 2D pilot that is my experience.

Prefer this with mine:
Phantom Pain

Good speed, solid weapons. I regularly break 800+ damage in this mech.

I play mine like that but with a lower engine and less AC10 ammo, +2 SRM4s. It runs pretty damn hot (1.11) but is effective if you stick an move. I had a splat Kintaro try me 1:1 and I walked away with no armor breaches. Oh and don't fire all the ML at once. 4 groups works best here.
