Forest Colony/snow Redundant?

It struck me as odd today: why do we have the exact same map at two slightly different temperatures? What's the point? None of the other maps are like that, so why Forest Colony? It's almost like someone decided "Well, we need more maps for the rotation, but I don't feel like completely designing a new one, so I'll change the temperature just a bit, and paint snow on everything. There, done!". I personally think the snow version should go, considering we have Alpine and the day and night versions of Frozen City, three other very cold maps already in the rotation. That, or make one version a night battle map to give at least a slightly different gameplay experience. To me they just feel like playing the same map. Thoughts?

It was the early days, cheap way, to make a new map. xD They are only subtlety different obviously but I kind of like having both in there.

The map layout is slightly different too. Theres a fairly large snow back that cuts off one of the pathways normally use next to the western tunnel entrance.

They've each got half the chance of showing up as a normal map. Same with River City/Night and Frozen City/Night.

I wouldn't mind seeing variants of other maps, if it's a lot faster than making entirely new ones.

Well, it would seem that people want more map variants. In that case I still think one of the Forest Colony maps should be a night version.

No, bring back Sunny Forest Colony! No more night maps! I hate that they made maps just to justify Night vision and Thermal vision. Those maps cause lots of eye strain and headaches for me, and are easily circumvented by adjusting your monitor. So while some players are burdened with crappy vision modes, other players are unaffected. I would be very happy if they didn't make any more. I am not a fan of the storm that rolls in randomly on Frozen City, but at least it hits everyone equally.

I like variants. I would love every day map to have a night variant.

Is it by adjusting the Gamma setting, I think? I haven't done it myself. Just like I haven't removed cockpit glass. But my understanding is it isn't hard to do.

Yeah, I don't get it. It's a tiny map to begin with. In the pug queue, the blocked path is just another reason for the Derp Squad to charge through cave or run into water without ECM.

Now there are other maps I'd like to see with a temperature and texture change. Terra Therma wouldn't be quite so unbearable if the volcanoes were dormant, the ground covered with snow and the temperature well below zero. And how about a grass covered Alpine, with areas of dense forests?

These are ideas that have been around for some time though. Doesn't look like it's happening.

As a friend of mine stated 'Minus mining city and the decorations tend to become depressingly monotonous'. Map variants are a simple way to have more variation of the decorations.
I think that presently (until there are many maps made) each map should come in 3 variants: day/night/low visibility, e.g. like mining collective with really heavy rain or dust storm on tourmaline. Also acid rain will sure suit caustic. :) And blizzard over Alpine will really change things for that map, but the idea with sunny summer variant really strikes me as distinct addition to decoration, may we have both?
