Better... But still looks like it's pretending to be an airplane. At least it lost the "twiggy" legs.

Must be doing heavy squats. :P

It's basically the heavy-class equivalent of the Cougar.

Black Python is a TR 3055 - so depends on PGI if they want to go with the production year - plus most clan players would probably dump their omnis for these mechs due to the restrictions.

So... a 75 ton Cougar?

Spoiler

It also has the same speed as its 35 ton counterpart...take from that what you will.

There is a joke about airspeed velocities in there somewhere...

Given the timeline, why dont we have a Longbow?

Quote

The Longbow, introduced in 2480 as the LGB-0C Longbow, has seen service in the armies of the Inner Sphere since the days of the Star League and is one of the most well-known fire support 'Mechs in existence.

Honestly, they should re-design the system, to let omni's have just pod space, a set armour / internals type, heat sink type, engine size and some locked equipment...

Battlemechs should have hard points, locked equipment and engine sizes, locked internal type, the rest could be variable though.

No... MW4 was garbage.

What I want is more akin to TT, than the current genaric mech shooter online with battletech skins we have now.

Can't believe this comes from the same person. Have even you read TT rulebook? What happens when different types of internal structure, armor, gyros and engines are released? You have no chance to even try them out because everything is locked. There was no such thing like hardpoints or locked equipment in TT.

clan battlemechs are an awful slippery slope.

i'd love a kodiak, and i'll keep asking for it......

but the reality is it's a 100 ton battlemech that travels 64.8 km/h and has 12 hardpoints or 7 + jj's. how the heck is it going to be balanced to avoid becoming the meta assault, short of getting a profile that's bigger than an awesome............................

Well, the rule that I've heard is that Omnimechs did have all of their stuff other than pod space locked, as well as their total armor points, but you could use refit kits on them to turn them into normal Battlemechs in order to modify their internal goodies.

There are actually a few Omnis with future tech built into them, but not that many. The Wolfen mixed tech light mech comes to mind, which is a fairly obnoxious 30 tonner that carries maxed out Stealth Armor, XL Gyro, Clan XXL, ECM, and Clan Endo, with 10 tons of pod space running at 178.2 kph (with Speed Tweak). The hardpoints on most variants would suck however, but there are a few gems thrown in.

Clan regular Battlemechs would probably be the best bet for trying out new internal gear, but certain things like alternate gyro types are actually an IS invention and thus only mixtech rules let you put them on Clans...

-sigh- for Omni's there was locked equipment, point in case the hard wired flamer on the CT of the Adder...

And as I have pointed out in various other threads, sometimes the only differenace between variants is something like Endo steel, or an engine size differance.

For example I'll use the Raven:

RVN-1X
Engine: 175 standard
Armour: standard

RVN-3L
Engine: 210xl
Armour: FF

RVN-4L
Engine 210xl
Armour: Stealth
DHS

See? It's suttle differeances that change how the mech works, but in MWO, we can take that RVN-3L and almost turn it into a 4L, just sans Stealth Armour, and with a much more powerfull engine. What I was talking about with those restrictions I had put in, was to keep some flavour and differance between Omni's and Battle mechs.

A little thread resurrection, but the Black Python is not as good as you would think (speaking from a Tabletop perspective). Contrary to what was mentioned earlier, they both have the same engine rating (375XL), but the Timber Wolf has 14 tons of armor where the Black Python has 11. This is a big difference in a game where the strongest weapon is defined as being the one that crits first. The Black Python (1) can't out-run or out-range the Timber Wolf (Prime), and actually loses in long range trades.

One more note about timeline: The Black Python began production in 3051, making it current (though it can be considered unobtainable due to being Steel Viper).

Really, it's just a spiffier looking mech that we already have a better version of.

The Black Python, is also a Battlemech, not an omnimech... so in theory it could have more workable tonnage by taking a smaller engine with just as much armour... or it could be faster with less weapons and just as much weapons...

long story short, it would have all the advantages of Clan Tech, with being a Battlemech like the IS mechs...

I made a mistake in my earlier post. The Timber has 12 tons, not 14 tons.

Also, not being an Omnimech is supposed to be a BAD thing. I know things are backwards in MWO, but that's how it's supposed to be.

I know, I'm well aware of that fact, but I'm just highlighting why letting Clans have battlemechs would be a bad idea...
