When was the last Cicada X-5 sale? I was so close to getting it but maybe it will be on sale soon? Not a troll topic. Just curious. I need a 40-45 tonner so I can take 2 STK's :)

Also the Sparky looks amazing but Im holding out for the Wolverine Hero.

Why the X-5? Maybe grab Cicada champion for now, then when there is hero sale sell the champion and get that X-5.

X5 is a surprisingly good platform after the Quirkening™. Keep your eyes open for a sale soon. They have been messing around with modules and the like. Hero's are due for a turn again.

Yep 2 STK's a X-5 and my commando for a dropdeck, for a change. I will likely replace the commando with a 30 tonner maybe the Urbanmech.

Currently using Hunchback(long range), Wolverine(long range), Gift champion Centurian(short range), STK(medium range). Doing very well with this deck.

Started with 1/1/1/1 dropdeck but the Protector(commando to) is to weak and wanted a change for fun.

Why not 2x Stalkers, 2x firestarters/ravens?

Firestarter to OP, so are the STK's but not as bad and I didnt get them for that reason. Yes the raven is a likely contender to replace the commando for now, but the Urban mech fits perfectly so... All I am 100% sure of is I want the X-5 now lol. Nice looking mech. I am expecting it to be quite challenging to do well in though. The upcoming quirks will be interesting for 100 reasons. I expect alot of Omni mech pilots to be crying though. lol

You can run one of the Cicadas with ECM. Works quite well with 2 large lasers, 2 mediums - both booned by quirks. But I do love the X-5 as well. An excellent light-hunter, with medium firepower and light-mech speed.

Then go for it! :) I am skilling cicadas now and they are lovely little mechs! Running 2x LPL, 2x ML on my X5 and he is holding his own, though the ECM-cicada does what it does a bit better.

This works well for me in an X-5. Good speed, light-hunting ability, and twin SRM6's so you can be a pain to the bigger, slower beasts on the battelfield too: http://mwo.smurfy-ne...005b2cc59b984eb

There is the Vindicator St. Ives too (45 ton). I've never played it so I'm not sure if it is good or not. I'll say that the Vindicator 1AA and 1R are descent (1X kinda stinks right now).

Quirks:
VND-1SIB

Additional Structure L/R Arm7
Additional Structure L/R Leg11
Large Laser Range15%
Energy Weapon Range7.5%
Laser Duration-20%
Missile Weapon Cooldown10%

Just as an option if it comes up for sale before the X5. I'm pretty sure the Ives has JJs too (not 100% sure though), but the X5 would probably be a lot quicker.

Again, just another option you may want to consider in your tonnage range.

Yah, the ECM Cicada-3M is pretty viable. Check it out first.

They said I could pilot anything, so I chose a house.

The X-5 isn't worth the MC, until it gets dynamic hardpoints and has more than 2-tube missile launchers. It'd be legit if it could rock real SRM6s.

Pilot a 3M or 2B instead.

Right now it's not worth getting an X5. While it does have decent quirks it suffers from a lack of updated weapon geometry. For example, if you run 2 SRM6s you effectively fire 6 SRM2s. It only has 4 missile tubes because they haven't given the Cicada dynamic weapons geometry yet. When it gets that fix it will be a much better mech.

Might I suggest two 3M? Might as well bring some ecm?

I really like the Cicadas. My X-5 runs 4 M lasers and two srm4s with a XL300. The 2 tube launchers have there pros and cons. My srm4s has to double fire; however, this seems to help tighten up the spread of the missiles. Since I'm firing medium lasers, the extra firing time of the srm4s don't seem matter that much. I would love to see the Cicadas get dynamic hardpoints. Would make them look a lot better. Feels weird seeing three lasers fire when I am really firing five and when you look at the mech, you see two lasers and a flamer.

The 2 tube missile hardpoints won't work for me; I like making quick strike pulse builds, and 2xSRM4 added to 4xMPL would have been handy, but the delayed missiles mess me up. Better to take 2xSRM2 in my opinion.

It would be tempting to pick it up on 50% sale however, especially given that it has a XL330 engine. That would fill a gap in my XL engine collection.
