yes, been beat to death.
I thought as my ELO rose it would dimenish, so I tolerated it.
Two years into it, I'm still getting grouped with players (we have enough time to actually ASK before a battle starts) and always 2-3 every battle who have 20 battles teamed with those who have 2000 battles...
yes, I get it...we dont have the player base

MAYBE something in the battle results saying YOU (dipstick) you did THIS much damage to friendlies.
HOW cool if it actually DEDUCTED cbills?
I'd gladly eat the rare time I hit a friendly- like when a noob is facehugging a mech I crippled with lerms and I dont know he's there, send in that last salvo and pepper him too.
Or, I've zoomed in my sniper spot and someone walks in front of gauss, or that player (you know who I'm talking about) that walks right in front of a NON STOP, 30 second long, stream of bright blue lasers, then turns and blasts you in the face..yes, I would own that damage.

It might help new players realize they are actually HURTING their chances of surviving my crippling their own?

I'd suggest penalizing based on if you destroy a friendly component. You'll always have minor range to friendlies from people wandering into friendly fire arcs. Make it if you hit a teammate with enough damage that they lose a component you'll be fined. Or possibly if you open a friendly's armor and expose internals.

IMO, it all comes down to players not having to complete a tutorial that shows them every aspect of the game. I would be willing to bet that 50% or more of new players do not know that their weapons fire from the component on their mech instead of just firing straight out from the HUD like most other FPS games. Hence, we have KGC's blasting away their ac20s or gauss into friendly backs without even realizing they are doing it.

A team damage counter would help, but that would also require the person to look over their stats breakdown after every match, and I for one rarely look at the stats breakdown.

I'd be down for two changes along this line:

Something easily seen, quickly, in the results screen showing team damage. Show it in red. Hell, show it in the final scoreboard.

Scaling penalties for team damage in the form of c-bills. Scraped someone with a laser as they passed in front of you? No problem, loose 100 c-bills. Completely blow off an arm because you were tunnel visioning and you sidestrafed behind a friendly, loose 10k c-bills. (Hypothetical numbers)

Yup, I try to yank lasers to the sky when someone walks in front of me- not always possible. Once missiles are unleashed, yeah..I get it.

I would not mind seeing -*** right behind the positive damage numbers that both sides could see-
final score at least the player could see in bold red MINUS x damage

Something will hopefully be looked at, they can not be unaware of the problem- simple reciprocal damage works in LOTS of games.

for whatever reason, couple games last night, couple this morning before work were HORRID...
last night some one in a clan something LRM boat (canyon) stood behind me twice and unleashed a fickton of LRMs into my backside- 50-60 meters behind me..TWICE! I moved! Two salvos cored my back.
I barked about it, and was told to quit standing in front of him....seriously..
last one this morning a stormcrow was behind me 300 meters, just pummeling the crap out of me shooting at the red triangle...ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE BUILDING
enemy targeted, and he commences to shooting... Not sure if thats clear- but I THINK he was just shooting at the red square, yanno what I mean? couldn't see the target, but blasted away if that makes sense. Lost my arm on that dam tiny locust, took me down to 60% in a nanosecond...

It's possible that you can share a tiny bit of blame as well, though it's hard to tell exactly from my current perspective. I personally have walked in front of firing friendlies once or twice on accident without realizing it until another unit-mate confirmed I was in the wrong.

If you'd like, hop onto the TRAF teamspeak (address in my signature) and poke an officer (sgt or above) who has the MWO logo at the end of their name. We're a US east coast multi-gaming unit, so we're on usually between 6pm-11pm EST. (Shameless plug completed). Or hell, pop into our website for a nice chat if you'd like. Name there is IgnorantGravity.

Grim, appreciated but I'll pass.
I'm not a casual gamer, nor am I inexperienced enough to casually walk in front of others- I'm not complaining about that when I do screw up.

I am talking about those who are unaware...and that is dam hard to believe..that weapons can hurt friendlies.
I am talking about those who don't care, or are angry someone "stole" their kill.
I am talking about someone so desperate to hit an enemy they will try to shoot around a friendly

I've watched too often situations where someone is so frantic to take a shot, they continue shooting when a friendly is in the way.
I die, I think I got a lot of assists, we're ahead, so I drop into 3rd person in someones cockpit and watch it over and over.. someone recklessly spray and pray.

So focused on hitting a running light, they RAKE the lasers across half the team. Launch LRM's into the back of a guy standing in front of them.
Drop arty even tho' there are a couple of friendlies in a mix up with a group of enemy.

I wont even get close to the last two mechs alive cause I know the tryhards are going to unleash hell to try and get their kill...

(from my first post) I got nailed in the back last night in Canyon, I turned around and saw an assault with a lot of tubes on it.
So...I hopped down, went around the back of the guy, 200 meters down, got back up on the ledge and moments after a triangle appears I get another salvo in the back, same guy- tells me to move...after I point out he yellowed my back armor....

I think griefing might occur if we got charged for friendly damage. I can easily see that.
BUT reverse/reciprocal damage? Blast someone and you take equal damage?
Watch threads like this vanish after 30 days....

FF is fine if you are in the heat of battle and someone walks in front of you as you pull the trigger.
its another thing when you are shot at the very start of the fight and you see players firing their weapons at nothing,
I lost a B/CAP & TC to FF long before the match even starts.

C-bills should be reduced based on the amount of damage and if they destroy something.
though the fine should actually happen at the very start of the battle before enemy contact.

now there needs to be a tag added to TPK to warn others of such a player and no penalty for destroying the TPK players.

the tag goes away after x - FULL battles but won't go away if they kill themselves or if enemy kills them.

it will be up to the team to remove the player or give the player a chance to redeem themselves.
