Really? We don't get rear firing weapons? Well, I'll be, I never knew that! No wonder my Battlemaster can't fire it's rear facing lasers behind it! That explains SO much, thanks guys!
Metabuild, yeah, because you are building based on the quirks, nothing else. There's better Mechs in the Heavy range who'll do the job better, but they don't get those quirks I guess. Yeah, pretty much falls under metabuild, otherwise the loss of the quirks wouldn't be a big deal to you, after all, you can still put just as many SRMs on it as before, they just loose a little range.
Quirks were originally supposed to fit the BTech fluff/lore for the Mechs, remember? They weren't supposed to take the single weapon a Mech has facing the rear and give it a bunch of great quirks to make that 1 weapon the basis for making new variants. The 4H uses it's lasers and LRMs as it's main weapons, they face forward. The SRM faces the rear, it's a holdout weapon, and it's not even used much because the Quickdraw can flip it's arms to fire to the rear as well, and those 2 medium lasers are a much better weapon choice for getting someone off your rear.
Personally, I'd prefer rear firing weapons on the select Mechs that have them, as well as the flipping arms, it'd be nice to not have to turn fully around in my Battlemaster to deal with a Jenner who gets uppity, but PGI didn't give us those options. Probably be too complicated for too many people, seems to be a big reason for many dumbed down things in MWO.
