Surn here from the old Mechwarrior Registry League.

Back in the mid 2000's I put about a year into developing a Community Warfare style league. The league was to be called Homeworld and you can read more about it at homeworld.mechreg.org.

I used the technology of the day, but what resulted was a league where individual players and teams could fight across the entire battletech universe and take planets, asteroids, moons, or parts there of.

The maps of the worlds became more than I could create alone, so I scripted them all to have a default minimum number of sectors and random terrain. The system then allowed us to create the terrain ( and thus the type of map that is played upon in game) for the various worlds.

Example: Terra.

We had hundreds of maps (http://www.mechreg.org/missions.asp) so each terrain type had a randomized drop component, but units could specialize on individual terrain types and take territory they are best suited to hold and defend.

Due to the number of planets, players were needed to build maps, so I built a map maker.

The Mech games of the day died and most of the maps were never completed.
(if you want to build a map to see how it works, send me a message and I will give you access to a general account to use.)

While that league is dead, the data persists and with new technology this would be a tremendous addition community warfare.
