I noticed in my Shadowhawk how the weapons next to the cockpit don't move, yet my cockpit is bouncing all over. Stabilizers? Its nothing major, just "odd".

You do realize YOU shake in your seat more than the Cockpit does.

Yeah, if you look at the arms of the Stormcrow or at the ST of your Battlemaster, you see that they are not moving at all as if they are floating beside you while you move. It looks odd.

I didn't realize that one to be honest. I really don't care.

Come on, don't think too much about this game here. It's a science fiction based game. So not always thought to the very end.

The issue is that the guns don't move at all, like they're ghost projections hovering in front of the mech.

I noticed that too, quite an immersion breaker I must say.

It doesn't bother me, I just wondered if it was just my shd or if it was a common thing.

Well Vassago Rain you are definately right, tons of mechs, tall and lots of big guns.

Actually, in games your weapon or cockpit view is a separate mesh only visible to yourself. The bouncing effect of the cockpit in MWO is just an illusion to give you the sense your mech is walking.

In first person shooters in general a lot of things actually are very different than you would imagine.

1. Your speed in games is often ridiculously high. 40mph is not uncommon for a sprint speed of your typical shooter game.
2. The gun model your guy is carrying is quite often a different 3D model than the actual guns in the game, made specifically for the First Person viewpoint
3. Gun models tend to be very large, taking up to a quarter of your screen so the lower polygon count of the gun can be used to speed up Frames Per Second since 1/4th of the screen terrain doesn't need to be rendered.
4. Your viewpoint in many FPS games is actually somewhere in your guy's torso.

Now that Occulus Rift may become a thing the people who make FPS games are finding out that they need to completely redesign their games. The 1st person view now needs to be more accurate and those previous conceits and tricks don't work anymore.
