I have to say I was wrong about having a pop-up saying such and such planet needs defenders

Turns out this is a bad idea it lures unsuspecting solo players into matches that they know little about

IS vs. Clan (12 man teams) matches using PUG players is beyond a roll stomp, I feel some of them will leave CW and never come back

Now IS vs. IS can be fun (not sure about Clan vs. Clan) but new pug players can’t tell what type of match they are dropping into they are only responding to the call to arms

I can only recommend pug players do only IS vs. IS or Clan vs. Clan drops until a pilot achieves the rank of 3 or lance Corporal

Another suggestion might be to limit new CW players to go against 7 man teams or less

I also propose the win conditions be changed to a pop-up in the lobby (two lines short and sweet)

Then repeated like it is now when you enter the match

What do you guys/gals think?

I think I have a better idea.

Have solo players just do standard/pub matches...

And require being in a unit to do community warfare.

Pgi royally screwed up when they put solo players in Community Warfare.

There's a reason it's call the "Pug Zapper"

I think that's what PGI wanted originally

Some pugs are pretty good and can help out a 10 man or so

Yeah, there are awesome players out there that can add to a team on the fly. But that doesn't seem to make a difference in the "12mans touched me" attitude with the loud pugs.

My suggestion isn't to cut PuGs out because with only Units joining in you will limit your information base. However if they make an option to turn the planet pop ups on/off for those that do not wish to participate in community warfare it could solve your issue OP to where you wont see the pop-up when you just wish to do pub drops.

You can't make a successful game out of 200 players.

As a developer if you limit the number of data points which you track you limit your ability to catch bugs, design flaws, ect. ect. This is why companies are always seeking more alpha and beta tester and why online games like this progress into an open beta before they get launched and when new major features, like CW, are introduced they go through an open beta system. It allows devs to find out where flaws may exist. It does have the negative point that there will be loud people that, for lack of wanting to think of a better term, whine about everything but that is just one of the things developers have to deal with and sort through.

Just came in from another match where someone was trying to shoot the Omega Gun Gen

When they should have been shooting the Auxiliary Gen

I think we can all agree that you can’t go into CW blind

And if PGI won’t do a mandatory CW tutorial we need to help new/newb/pug players out a little

Won't ??????
This whole thread is full of misinformed opinions
What drunken state of mind to you need to be in 100% of the time to believe they "wont" make a tutorial

Firstly CW will die with out pugs
A tutorial is only worth constructing if you are finished changing the rules
Pugs and small units will be funneled into smaller game modes in cw in the future giving their efforts meaning and a way to dip their toes in and test the water
The smaller modes will be supply raids and deep strike missions

Pgi have very clearly and many times stated these desires and goals

Head on over to http://nogutsnogalaxy.net/podcast.php
Listen to the town hall meetings with russ bullock

Then you will understand that the current state of cw is just the skeleton
They have so much more they want to do and add

Even if you dont the differences between the first cw map and the newest show how much they are paying attention and cleaning up the concepts

The game desperately needs faction chat and LFG tools implemented.

Once those two simple things are added, the MMO mentality will take over and the pug dilemma will be solved. Want to remain a freelancer but still play the game with competent players?

Typed in faction chat: "Mechwarrior LFG for 8-11 man unit groups looking for fillers, have meta builds and TS, will travel." *clicks on friend accept and group accept, enters unit or hub TS*

With an LFG tool it's even more automated. The road map promises these changes soon, let's see what happens.

Until then, ffs pugs, at least download TS and get into a community hub.

This game needs desperately a lot of things. As much as I agree I don't think that whill be enough. Tutorials are needed and there needs to be a mentoring system for new players at least as much. People are dirven off the game by the sheer amount of information they are flooded with. Even with mentoring and a lot of explainations the game needs at least two evenings to sink into a new players head. Get some frustrated blockhead to launch this game twice, IT TOOK ME A FREAKIN YEAR! >.<

Following points are required before heading to steam:
  • Proper tutorials, best case with story background. Make a small wrapper, we already had examples floating around
  • Mentoringsystem: Dota2 has it. We need it. One player with a certain amount of matches can backseatdrive a new player. This feature requires language (players of the same language are paired for mentoring) support, so that you can teach/learn the game in the best way possible.
  • Faction chat: It's supposed to be coming today
  • LFG - Tool: People grew acustomed to that. Make it only semi automatic. Why? See world of warcraft as example - noone gives a **** about others anymore. Aion had an good implementation how this is supposed to be handeled.
  • This game needs some sort of general-chat with chatrooms. Interfaction chat. The ideal place for new players to come and ask questions. Sadly this would be in urgent need of moderation.
  • Trailmechs that are good but not meta. There has to be a set of mechs, that switches every week so that there will be enough variety in the sets for players to try.
  • Timerestricted testmechs: PS2 is doing this for weapons. Give a player 1 hour of playtime with each mech in the game. In this hour they can customize freely for no C-Bill cost. After that time the mech gets locked and it can be unlocked again for Cbills or MC !-> in its customized condidtion or as stock <-!. Here are the actual part costs considered.
This would allow MWO to take the best system out of multiple games around on the market and utilize it into one product. MWO is in dire need for proper new player features.

Pop-Ups only show if the PUG has selected a Contract. If they don't want to see Pop-Ups, don't select a Contract.

I REALLY hope Naduk is right. Those moves (Smaller groups for CW, raids and such) are the ONLY ones that will keep new players and casuals supporting the game, and like it or not, that is where the money is.... If PGI goes broke, we ALL lose, so people need to keep that in mind as they go on about elite dominance being perfectly natural and how PUGs can screw off, etc. That is a VERY narrow view, and it dooms us all, IMO.

On the contrary, it allowed me to get a couple drops last night. One of them was with an 11-man team against a 12-man Clan team.

We won. It was close, but we won. And I've dropped all-PUG vs nearly all team before and won. It's more the players than anything else - players that are used to dropping as PUGs (like me) are used to working as a group organically and having to be a lot more aware of the ebb and flow of the battle than someone that's on comms.

Still - VOIP will definitely help.

Adding I would love to see smaller matches: 8- and even 4-man things. Or an option to "ramp up the engagement" should the enemy be dropping with more.

I was in a public drop the other day... and we went against an organized team.

I tried hard to organize my team and there were one or two people who were willing to come along but it did seem like a large majority of the solo players just needed help. The type of help that comes from being in a training unit. Many of us are working on keeping units together in order to make CW what we all feel it can be... I am hoping that there are changes that come into play which makes it easier to recruit and get solo players where some of them belong.

There will always be those who feel joining a group just doesn't go with what they consider fun? Perhaps have planets open up where it's JUST solo players and other planets where it's only grouped. Maybe have 2 planets per front... the difficult is the user base but perhaps if these changes are expressed well it could help.
