I guess you could try and buy an entire account if someone has one but no longer wants the game.
If such a person exists, probably not.

That would be Account Trading, which is on the Naughty List.
So you could do it and then lose the account because it's been banned.
Or, as I know is a popular trick, buy the account to then have the owner recover it and then sell it to another mark (which is one of the many reasons to not allow Account Trading in the first place).

I bought an account once in WOW. They eventually stole it back by changing the password.

Careful wishing for a player-driven economy. We don't have MC/c-bill farming in this game the way there exists in other games. But the moment you can exchange resources...

Best Player Driven economy off all time.... Star Wars Galaxies...

I purposely had a guild farm the Tusken Raider camp 24/7 in the first year as it was the only place with consistent Crystal and Attachment drops.... Oh how we made trillions.... the money was ridiculous to the point that 12mil an attachment was average (attachments were added to clothing, and in doing so, crafters who maxed out these adds could wear when crafting and make higher quality gear which inturn, sold for more). And everyone needs armor, and ever crafter needed maxed gear....

I digress...

No to player economy here. You need literally thousands of items to create a price point/rarity diversity here. And this game, doesn't have it. (Remember, there is almost Zero rarity in this game, which is a good thing).

In case it hasn't been mentioned, there is no way to merge accounts - I offered to pay PGI $75 to merge my IS and Clan accounts but they said no such mechanism is available.

and then you will still have people who put one into auction for 1000000 just for a inaware guy to accidently buying it, and scam people. No palyer driven economy often turns out a lot bad people.

So, let me get this straight. Because one or two people, a small minority to be sure, might charge inordinately high prices for an item that could be purchased cheaply from another vendor or the Mechlab, you are against a player driven economy? Pardon me, but that rationale is stupid.

Using the same prices as in the example I previously described, if a player is stupid enough to purchase a small laser for 1,000,000 C-bills, then he/she rather deserves to be gypped. Stupidity should be painful.

That being said, I don't believe that the majority of MWO pilots are that dumb. If there are a couple of players who charge that much for an item, then I believe that most MWO pilots, if not all, will simply not buy them at that price but will instead purchase them much more cheaply via the MechLab or a cheaper charging player.

it will not be one or two, there will depenend on how the system looks like be poeple trying to scam due to this system.
so when you look for buying an U-Ac 5 and everoyne puts it on 100.000 and usual the UAC 2 price would be 10.000 soe will be there to put up an UAc 2 at 90.000 to make it appear at the end of that list, and it will yb naure catch a lot people falling for this. and this would only be one of the scamming attemps existing.

there is a laod of people specialised into this things which is amde to trick your psyche and fall for it, surely you would never ever pay for this, but the simplicity of how they trick people is working hat simple. And its not even somewhat stupidity related. More caused by slight tricking and a bit unawareness when you go through a list of 200 UAC5's

So what you are saying is that people won't be able to differentiate based on decimal point location, and that this will then cause people to fail to differentiate between the 1 and the 9 if they do look for lower prices.

I really, really don't think that the majority of players are that dumb. In my first example, I used Star Trek Online's player-driven Exchange as an example. It was actually a great source of low-cost items because pilots wanted to convert their inventories into cash. In fact, there was frequently lots of items at prices cheaper than what you would pay at AI vendors simply because a lot of the vendors did not check the nearest AI vendor for prices. As such, it's been my experience that player-driven economies tend to be closely aligned with the price controls set by the programmers (AI vendors) or possibly cheaper. To be sure, there are those players who post at more exorbitant prices, but a simple lowest-to-highest list filter allowed me to instantly find the cheapest priced items on the Exchange. If it was cheaper than what I would pay an AI vendor, then I bought it. If otherwise, I would go to the AI vendor and buy there.

I envision something similar here in MWO, and I really don't think that a decimal point will cause the system to collapse. It didn't in STO, so why expect it to in this case?

But if you can buy it from the Mechlab for 10,000 nobody in their right mind would spend 100,000 on it. If they do, they deserve to lose the extra money.

the thing is people wll trick your midn and you will click on it because ther eis a list of 1000 UAC 5's and a single uac 2 with a bit cheaper (or even the same price) and then you do not realise at this moment that this one click amonst 30 listed same weapons has a simple 2 instead of a 5. This is how the trick works, and this trick works very reliable because this is how laods fo scams are done..

I don't think you've dealt with player exchanges before.

First of all, they normally have filters. Thus, if I am searching for a UAC/5, I can filter out everything except for UAC/5s. Thus, no UAC/2s could possibly slip into the lists.

Secondly, if someone wanted to try to pass off a UAC/5 as a UAC/2, they could not. Exchanges require you to select items from your inventory and then assign lot names based on the item itself. Players do not normally get to name the lot.

Thirdly, you make it sound like everyone participating in the exchange will be out to get you. From my own experience, I don't believe that this is the case.

Fourthly, shopping at the store must be a paralytic experience for you, what with all the marketing that goes on there. However do you manage to make purchases for yourself? You make the Exchange sound like an evil entity that will rob you blind and forget that participation would be voluntary.

My point, is that there will be people who take advantage of it and people who do not. In the end, the MechLab prices will act as a max and min. Players can post above and below these values, but will lose money if posting below the min and probably will not be able to sell if posting above the max. That is why, in my initial example, the price of an item dropped to 0.001% of its initial value. Once the item was no longer available as a special mission reward only, but became a common item drop and purchasable from AI vendors, there was no longer any justification for charging exorbitant fees for it. Similarly, the MechLab and buyer behavior will dictate that the majority of the items for sale be priced somewhere between the max and min.

In the end, it is simple math and economics.
