Its damage to internals is laughable. I used to shotgun mech with open internals with a freaking LBX20 at point blank range and they would survive. that cannon is LEGENDARY for being a derp gun but in MWO lbx cannons are kinda crap. Even at short range with all your shots hitting one armor section the damage is pretty crap. Its only good if you boat them.

Is it that time again?

I think it's totally that time again.

After theory building, I've determined that you can't go 2xUAC5, keep 7 tons of ammo, (The minimum needed... 210 rounds is only good for 1050 damage) AND jumpjets without either dropping armor below 316, dropping jump jets, or dropping below a XL250 engine. A XL235 allows for acceptable speed while retaining the option for a small laser or two jump jets. A XL245 allows for 1 jump jet OR 1 laser.

The enforcer 5P seems like a lost cause. The single energy hardpoint is its downfall.

Just another reason why we should have Binary Laser Cannons.

Like, nao.

Or at least Heavy PPCs linked up to Capacitors...

OP

Can you please please do a serious matchup next time? Because watching Cattra intentionally flail about like a newb isn't going to convince anyone with the slightest bit of skill that these mechs are any good.

He should have put the Panther against the 6 MG Spider and 3-second Jenner.

Heavy PPCs would be awesome, alongside the Snub-nose PPCs. Outside MLs and MPLs, these two are the best energy weapons the IS has to offer.

That sole energy hardpoint would go a long way with those things.

I fail to see the point of the PPC panther when its that slow. I currently have a SDR-5D that I would take any day over this due to speed and ECM.
XL 255

I run my FS9-H with 3xML and an AC5 (2 tons ammo) with 2 jets, near max ferro armor, endo steel, 255XL. I do better in it than most of my "better" Firestarters. The Panther having a 5 point lower engine cap isn't going to be a huge issue. You'll be able to get an (ER) PPC and 2xSRM4 with 2 tons ammo, or even get nutty and swap the SRM4s for LRM5s.

Is it going to be competitive? Doubtful. Will it be fun? Well, some of us will enjoy it, I'm sure.

I know those matches are intended to show off the mech, but when they show how terrible the opfor has to be in order to make it good, it means that the mech that is being featured is actually bad, and you should feel bad for doing that.

At least make it a game and don't make it look like it's the Star League's Underground Gundam Solaris (obviously not sanctioned by Comstar).

But FuppyDuppy, if we Math, we can find out the LB10x has a 0.0000000000006% chance to deal 19 damage in a single shot!

If all 10 shots hit an exposed panel, and all roll a 6% crit.

I'm going to say it. I'm disappointed.
  • Panther looks too large, especially compared to the 25 ton Commando. PGI seriously needs to re-scale ALL the mechs and update visuals. I'm tired of their silence on the topic and unwillingness to crank out improvements, even if at a trickle pace.
  • Panther's under-arm PPC is in the wrong place; what is it with you guys and under-arm hardpoints?
  • Enforcer head is still a clusterf**k resembling a pnus head out of circumcision procedure gone wrong.
  • Enforcer body is just a wtfbbq mess of a design. It looks nothing like the TRO.

Very disappointed.

I really hope the grasshopper and zeus don't get beat up by the ugly stick before release.

Nice! Thanks a lot Jean! Enforcer looks better than in the original screenshot, or I'm getting used to it. Either way, I'm looking 4ward to the both of them tomorrow =)

so is the custom geometry just the bullet marks? that's... cheap.

This. I don't really think bullet marks count as custom geometry. That's a paint job. I'm a little upset about this.

Nice. Thank you for dropping by the General Discussion forums frequently to give us new info.

Enforcer looks just fine for its weight. I think it is gonna be a good ballistic JJ Medium. However, all those non-functioning secondary monitors are serious sore on the eyes (00:39). Can we get functioning secondary monitors in general, or just have them removed, please?

Panther have its PPC slot mounted too low for my liking. Why didn't you guys mount it sideways like in these arts? Don't you know hardpoint locations are directly tied to sale numbers?

PS: Can we get sideways comparison screenshots please? I want even better idea of their hitboxes from the side angle. :D

It would also go a loooong way to serve as a "quirk" or buff so to speak to have the arm profile be the same from the side as the one with no weapon.

By putting the weapon underneath (on tons of mechs) when there is no need to or is is not suppose to be that way, like in this case, you are doubling the size of the arm. On mechs like the MLX keeping your arms is more important then staying alive because when you loose your arms in anything other then conquest you might as well be dead.

Please correct this, you are essentially nerfing the mech and the hitbox on that arm by having bad geometry like this.

Well, the Enforcer is a 50 tonner and I can usually arrange something effective out of that. The Panther- eh. Iconic, but I suspect it will quickly become a rarity on the field compared to the superior choices in the 35 ton bracket. Fun toys, but not necessarily workhorses.

Some feedback on the videos- either use the stock build and let your hapless foe throw the match, or use a modded, tricked out build and give us a serious contest. Having both a modded build and a distressed potato for an opponent doesn't really do much to sell the 'mech, at all. If you're really so worried about the new 'mech losing the fight, just have both players pilot one. As a bonus that way we can see how it looks moving and fighting as well.

The fact the panther was moving close to double the stock speed kinda drives home the point that the builds that'll be showing up in our 'mechbays tomorrow are too terrible to use, even for promotional purposes. That's not really anybody's fault, and is kinda already common knowledge, but it's a shame when these big iconic designs can't even get a happy fiction in the advertisement to cover how inadequate they are at the single defined role that lights are permitted to play in MWO.

Well, I read that back and it seems pretty harsh, so some good points on the reveal- Comparison screenshots are nice, lots of comparative scaling makes it easy to get a sense of exactly the size we'll be working with. The 'mechs themselves are pretty, and the sped-up modification at the end of the video does a good job of showing off the modular hardpoints/paint regions.
