Wow, I just feel real old now, had virtually the same system but C64 with the 1541 drive.

By the way you can DL all those old games off the internet now for free, they just dont play well with todays computers.

Damn that's awesome! I played that back on a 286 I believe with CGA graphics. No fancy 16 colors for me! :)

I used to have a Commodore 64. Played Wizard and Ninja Turtles on it. Had no idea there was a Battletech game, boy did I miss out.

I bought a box full of C64 stuff off a guy on Craigslist for like...$40? A ton of games, the system, cables, a drive, and a few controllers.

While going through the box we found an Atari 400 in the bottom, he threw it in for free. Known for having the absolute worst keyboard in history, I'm not even sure it runs and I don't even care to find out.

I've got a ton of good games in there, Skate or Die, Star Trek, Mechwarrior, Batman, and others...but like I said earlier I can't find a working drive :)

"Are you keeping up with the Commodore? 'cause the Commodore is keeping up with you" - The old C64 jingle.

AH harkens the mind back to the grand old days when joysticks used analog switches, floppy disks were floppy disks, and every mouse had a ball :)

Yes, Thats Crescent Hawks Inception, the system is a Commodore 128 (early model without the enchanced keyboard [keypad]) with an Atari compatible joystick and a 5 1/4 Floppy drive, not exactly sure what the extender to the side or cartridge/extenders in the back of it are though.

that was I believe a memory expansion.

Did they have computer mouse's back then?

{EDIT: Nevermind, Google->Wikipedia provided some info. Apple's had Lisa Mouses standard back then}

I recall:
- Trackballs (like mice except upside down - you spun the ball to move the cursor instead of moving the control around, predecessor to present day track pads on laptops. Usually only saw them on arcade machines [Oh man, I wonder how many won't know what an Arcade machine or Arcade is {Ie. Not that marketplace on XBox Live!}])
- Scroller paddles (think of a control that had a K N O B {K N O B is blocked by profanity filter....lol why?} you'd twist around that functioned like a throttle on a modern joystick except it had 359 - 360 degrees range - full circle: some could be rotated fully ~3 times others less than 1 full circle rotational range of movement). Some even had push buttons as well.

This is the previous load screen before the one in the first pic. No where does it post the title as being "Cresent Hawks Inception"

Westwood... I wish there where gamecompanies like that left.

Westwood, Bullfrog. If you seen any of those names on a gamebox you knew it was quality.
"sniff" :)

And you had to remove all the dirt after awhile because the ball would stop rolling right (you know either didn't roll, or would 'jump' because it had to roll over the dirt spot). Probably the only thing I don't mind giving up from previous computers, definitely like laser mouses better, nothing to clog up.

I loved the tape drives, the 5.25" drives... I played the Crescent Hawk games, but Ultima IV was the big time sink for me (plus, my brother, cousin, and our best friend). Our best friend would play while we weren't around, and he's not the most honest person in the world, so we'd have to keep donating because he'd buy 99 reagents from the blind woman for 1 gold piece... If you played the game, I'm sure you understand how much that sets you back for 'honest/truth' (forget the virtue).

Correct about the game being CH:I, but that is a Commodore 64C - NOT an "Early model without the enhanced keyboard". The 5.25 disk drive is a 1571 drive, and the white device you are calling an "extender" looks like a RAM Expansion, I cannot make out the type. And, if you will notice, there is an Epyx Fast Load cartridge in the cartridge slot.

I hope you are as good as identifying Battlemechs as you are at identifying vintage PC equipment....especially when you're in my sights... :)

that's not oldschool. oldschool is an interlaced amber screen that liked to freeze up whenever any kind of effects occurred (esp. when playing 688i XD)

Hehe Now that brings back the memories. The all-nighters, the 5 to 20 min loads from the loud 5 1/2" Drive, "Please insert disk #2, #3......" Monitor burn-in from staying on the same screen for too long.

No fair! Your first computer had a COLOR screen! My Apple ][+ with 48k of RAM had a GREEN-tinted monitor. Dad later went out and paid some serious $$$ for a special cable that let me connect to the TV and manually tune in a channel so I could port the graphics out to the TV.
