If you listen to PGI talk about their player base, they'll talk about Americas, Euro and Australian. I never hear them talk about Asia and yet Asia has a quarter of the world's population and some of the most hardcore gamers. I wondered why that is. Then I saw KanColle and mecha-musume and it donned on me why. Simply put, not enough sex-appeal/mech-pr0n in their mech designs. I mean, compare their mechs/tanks to ours. Just think of the "alternate geometry" we could really have:

Imagine if this were the Direwolf boating UAC/5:

or the Dual AC 20 Jaeger:

Make a manga and an anime to cross market. Get the kids watching the show and they'll grow into the game. Just think of the marketing possibilities!

Yes, this isn't a serious post and is really in jest, but it would still be awesome to see some fan made drawings of our mechs as anthropomorphic versions of themselves, like the kitfox, timberwolf, or /shudder the urbie.

If you have no idea what I'm talking about then look here:

Note: some of the pic links aren't working. Not sure why...

Hello. Not all of us here go for the sexy Loli side of things.

I mean, it does make things go easier, but it's not the be-all-end-all.

And FYI, Btech did have a anime makeover at one or two points.

From my understanding, Its mostly because not very many people know about Battletech/Mechwarrior. I have run into a number of people from Asia on Anime forums and such and they have never heard of it.

Most of them ask me what it is as often times I have references in my bio or tag or sig from Mechwarrior and so that's how usually the conversations get started. I always refer to them the books and give them a heads up that its an old series but really fun to read and point them to Sarna.net for more background info, and surprisingly, most of them like it.

You do realize that many of the mechs from the BT universe are from Japanese anime series, right? It is the whole damn reason why we cannot have Warhammer, Longbow, Archer etc...

Anyway, as a Mongolian, I have no issue with the MWO mech aesthetics--except the penis-head Urbies.
I do have issues with MWO's price schemes, balance, game-modes though...the stuff that matters IMO.

MWO's mechs don't fly (properly) or carry swords. No chance of beating out the cultural juggernaut that is Gundam over here.

Remembers the original Mechwarrior trailer with the Warhammer dooking it out in a city with an Atlas and Jenner.

Find out that Harmony Gold decides to pitch a fit and be D-Bags all over again and gets it canceled.

Just think about how good the Executioner and other mechs look.

Then think about how that artistic talent could have been used for the Unseen if HG wasn't a bag of **** nuggets.

Damn, why did you have to go there? I already think it about it enough as it is.

We had heaps of asian players stretching from Australia all the way through Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan, Sigapore and lots of others.

They know about BT and some are even mad Lore mongers. The reality is that many got bored with the delays and issues and have moved on, in the meanwhile telling their friends not to bother. Couple that with ping issues, because there are no local servers, making ping at best 250 and often a lot higher they go and do other things. I know quite a few that have move on to War Thunder.

Timezone and their prime time has a lot to do with it as well.

They are there but there could be a lot more of them. A server in Singapore or Australia would have a huge boost on numbers.

Why? Cause the big stompy robots is a western thing. Have you seen Asian mecha? They're mostly Gundam/Robotech/Armored Core kinda stuff. The closest I've seen to big stomp robots and BTech similarity is Square Enix's Front Mission Wanzers, and that sadly died off cause Squeenix thought making a shooter for the TBS series would be a good idea and then think it did poorly cause nobody wants Front Mission games anymore... -_-

[serious]Ah, no. I'm Asian myself, and it doesn't really work that way. This game is this game, that game is that. Adding moe? elements to a game like this just plain doesn't work.

It's not like LoL, DotA2, or WoT (all popular where I am) are cutesified, but they're the dominant games here.[/serious]

I think I would know. I do play Kancolle myself.

Nevertheless, I wouldn't mind the option for decals of that kind on DC mechs. That, at least, might fit in with the lore and earn some giggles.

We still wants Front Mission games - we just want to forget the abortion quasi eastern/western attention grabbing event that was FM:Evolved
