They included the arctic cheetah instead of the firemoth, they absolutely did that for a reason.

So... no. No Flea. I'm sorry to say, but it doesn't really even have any redeeming features compared to the Locust. And it would break the speedcap with MASC, so we can't have it for the same reason we can't have the Firemoth.

almost every light mech would break this speed limit with MASC.
without MASC the flea is just a locust reskiin.
So because the flea is too fast its not going to be added. their only other option would be to limit its engine so low it would be dead when not using MASC so not worth it.
Flea is ded.

give the mech a 20-25% speed boost when using it.
set max speed at 170 no matter the engine.
give warning in mechlab if you use an engine with masc that will normaly exceed 170km/h when boosting.
example:
engine speed: 150kp/h
with masc speed: 187.5 (25% boost)
mechlab warning: this engine with masc boost exceeds 170kp/h. your speed while boosting is capped at 170km/h
done

because its the same tonnage as the locust, its max engine would put it at 169 kph, so being capped at 170 kph means you gain less than 1 kph. so its useless.
would be pointless.

yes max engine. stock engine goes 97kp/h, 117 with masc.
my reply was for general masc but also fits the flea.
it was to 'fix' the masc exceeding speed cap.
as ive said. 169kp/h flea doesnt need masc. because its capped at 170 but using a smaller engine in it with masc can be usefull. Now you atleast have a choice on using masc or not instead of scrapping most mechs which carry masc stock.

That is a very good point. Even with it capped at 170, the Flea could potentially carry heavier weapons than the Locust and still be able to run at 170 with MASC. That would certainly differentiate it from the Locust and make it worthwhile. It would be attractive for Locust players who are smart enough to utilize the advantage.

As Tarogato correctly points out, Russ says it's not happening; the only shot the Flea has is an Urbanmech-style campaign, but the Flea is not nearly as well-loved as the Urbie. It's not going to happen.

Being the flea was simply meant to be the Locust when it was unseen, then once it became resend, there wasn't much need for both, but this could give it a legitimate reason to exist.
Still incredibly unlikely to happen, as pgi don't love it anymore, but this gives it a possible niche to fill at least, rather than just 'poor mans locust 3M 3-5 times'.

Nope. MASC wasn't the problem. Going over 200 kph is what breaks the system. Though of course they could simply introduce the ones that don't go over like.... 200 kph.
But only a month or so ago, Russ said the Flea was dead, as far as he is concerned. Mostly because it brings nothing to the table.

As far as the game is concerned, Russ is the Primus of Comstar, Hanse Davion, Aleksandr Kerensky and the Ilkhan of the Clans all wrapped up into one. That make sit pretty dang dead no matter how you count it.

Don't grab on to MASC as some great hope for things.... we don't know how it will be implemented but using it for any length of time is supposed to lead to dire catastrophic failure of the legs. Could be useful for larger mechs needing a boost... but Light Mechs, especially 20 tonners mostly need to be at max speed ALL the time. MASC is not the answer for that.
