I tried a gauss and 3 er large lasers, 3 erll and 2 U/ac/5. The missile hard points are hard to fill if you put a standard in, and they die too fast with an XL. Anyone come up with something to save this once useful mech from the scrapheap?

I personally think that Highlanders are great with XL engines, but if you want to go standard,

HEAVY METAL

I would do something like that. Don't take the ERlarges, they just run too hot. If anything I'd drop the SRM 6s and swap the 3 MPLs and add 3 standard large lasers. Anything slower and it's just too slow. anything faster and you're using just too much engine tonnage for that standard.

I tend to run my builds on the hot side with less ammo, but that build would be just about user friendly heat and ammo wise.

Yeah I use XL's in highlanders. It does mean you die sooner but its just about worth it on this mech,

XL is good on Heavy Metal , you loose a bit of tankyness up close(reduced survival) , but gain a lot in mobility (which increases survival) and firepower (increases survival as well by killing / disabling enemy ..).

Some 10% of my deaths are due to side-torso loss, the rest goes to CT.

I use STD engine only on SRM builds but prefer Victors for that job.

I can also recommend:

2xAC5(4tons), 3xLPL,16DHS, 1xJJ,XL330 ...............for medium range

GAUSS+AC2, 3xERLL, 15DHS, 2xJJ, XL330 ...........for long range

I go goose + 3LL XL330 on mine.

The Highlander is one of the very few assault mechs that can XL well. Make the most of it.

This is what I run.

Pair with the Maxed Ac 5 module, and they fire, really, really fast
Jump jet is more for maneuvering. Standard engine keeps me safe from side torso hits, as each side of this mech is dangerous, I can keep fighting long after losing an arm and ST.
Plus, i love when people try to XL check me in a victor or highlander, to be blown away after I lose the side torso.

This mech is still complete trash. Don't even try to run it. Shame on PGI for turning the highlander chasis into utter garbage.

A jenner will do more damage and be a bigger threat than this mech any day. Even a 100kph top speed this mech would barely be viable.

If you want long range support bring a shadowhawk 2-k, do more damage and get more kills than 3 of these inevitable scrapheaps would.

- Someone who loved their Heavy Metal before PGI crapped all over it.

You can do what we Summoner users are doing:

Dont use them till they get nice quirks.

I have a heavy metal too. Never understood how to use it well. Never gave me a crap load of credits. What a waste of $$$.

I remember when it was one of the few mechs with battle horns.

Slowest peice of battle junk. I find that 3 ER LL worked well enough for me. Did not know about the XL peice. Might try.

Might try these builds. Whats best? Leaving it in the hangar. I moved to stalker. AT least it isn't nerfed. Nerf the whole IS why don't you!

Says the person who has the best long range snipers, skirmishers, and lights in the game. ..oh and lets not forget the 4 ERLL ghost heat lift.. oh and lets not forget the only ones to get quirks over 10 percent,.. oh and lets not forget a larger drop deck.. oh and the range increase.. yeah.. real worthless now.. I agree that some mechs suffer, but when a Dragon is the new "**** your pants" mech when you run into one? ..what the hell are you talking about?

I've got the feeling the guys at pgi don't realy know what to do with assaults, especialy with jumping assaults.
Think of the Victor...Dragonslayer was nerfbatted to death.

I remember when the Heavy Metal was actually good. Now, it just gathers dust as others have said. In fact, all of the Highlanders suck now. I hardly ever see one. Same for Victors.

I see the occasional Victor and even the very rare highlander (more so the HM even). It's just not as common as 6 LL Banshees or Stalkers (Which I see all the time), King Crabs, Dire Wolves, Warhawks, and Atlases (Though I mostly see the DDC).

I'd run mine and see how they are now, but I stripped them for hardware to run in other mechs... Sadly this is also the case with many of my mechs as I don't have as many engines as mechs. At least not for the builds I use in them. If I could just manage to stop buying new mechs sometime...

just going to revive this right now....

'Heavy Metal' 'Gojira'
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...d7acc035056ce83

Heavy Metal is good! ive gotten it after it was nerfed hammered, but its still great imo.
I run it with 1x ac2, 1x gauss, 2x srm6 , 3x small L with a BAP and STD 320. 2.5 tons gauss ammo, 2 tons SRM ammo and 2 tons ac2 ammo.

hits 62 kph and can really lay the hurt. At range the AC/2 and Gauss both work awesome together, they have the same velocity. and when you get close hit them with the SRM's and lasers. Also runs really cool, 1.38. It works best for pushing, the closer you get the more it hurts. hope this helps anyone still using this mech i really dont see them often....
