I was almost going to praise PGI when I heard they changed the format for the challenges but once again the dumb bastardss don't seem to get it.All they had to do to make it fair and fun was either calculate points based on ASSISTS or by damage DONE PER MATCH.

I plain asss just give up on PGI having any common sense at all.

I really wonder if they think about the incentives they're creating with these events at all, or if they're just throwing **** at the wall

I mean, if what you want is for people to play 80-100 games to get the raven, just make the challenge 'get 1000 assists,' or 'do 20,000 damage,' whatever. It would be much less frustrating and wouldn't create these stupid incentives

this event is going to be dominated by suicide runs. you are going to grab a fast assault, hug the first bad guy you see, and pump em with salvo after salvo until they die, if you are still alive after this, you will then procede to do it again. one of these attempts some lesser player will steal your kill thus granting your assist. players will then immediately quit and find another game (a result of not needing to win).

they should have just said match score of 30+ and be done with it. or perhaps reward the whole team as one. but no we got to use some rules that will pretty much encourage horrible game play. on the bright side those games where you do well and the team does horribly you can still score a point, so scoring will be many times easier.

whats alarming is the need for 80 points just to get all the prizes, and only 3 days to do it. thats another weekend down the drain. especially with the adder being pushed into the 50 point range.

well, on the bright side....or maybe the darkside? After having my team throwaway more potentially qualifying matches than I care to think about last weekend, at least now I just have to do my job to qualify.

Not advocating the gameplay...but sadly, I actually find it preferable to seeing a match draw out, only to have it lost.

What's the chance he has "Please hold locks. LRMs here." macro'd for chat?

Not at all I am generally the scout trying to hold the lock, I have found LRM's to be a play style that i don't enjoy. As for macros last i checked you were not allowed those . . .

I like a challenge but the point of me starting this was the challenge ruined the fun last weekend and a suicide run challenge will most likely do the same. If i just wan't going to get it frankly not a problem like i said i have the toys you get from this or the ones i would have wanted anyway, if I though this would be encouraging good team play and fun games I WOULD BE ROOTING FOR IT, even if i knew i would not get a thing out of it bar the fun of playing.

If they force everyone to play 50+ games they negotiate with Valve they can go "damn, look at all these players". That is the only logical reason I can think of.

It was also the first with VOIP we had people on for that giving it a go and just happened across the challange, i would be interested how much of an impact that had.

After the crappy grinding that we had last weekend and the worst of behavior coming out in players desperately trying to get a kill and many people going way to far and basically committing suicide in the hope of getting their kill.

Why are you lot punishing those who play in a support role i watched the balance of Mechs on the field tip even more than normal towards the Heavy end of the scales, there were so many Assaults and Heavies that i at more than one point had the client tell me there was less than 10% lights in queue.

I am sick and tired of having to put up with people raging because player "insert name here" stole his/her kill. or walked in the way at the last moment so they could not get last shoot.

Please stop these events ones where you get rewards for more than just kills and hold on maybe reward teamwork seeing as this is a teams game .... the win requirement was the only semblance of that last weekend and it is now gone .....

come on reward those people who help you win by playing Mechs that don't pack every inch of their Mech with guns those guys who give up DPS and Alpha strike impact to take that Active probe or that AMS system give them points for spotting and points for those things.

Good luck to those who are playing this weekend I sadly do not know if I can put up with the behavior I did last weekend again.

Fair point re the team damage thing. Sadly PGI have roundly ignored the many pleas for damage penalty/reflection. Quite simply assault folks don't want to change play style, and us scrawny quicks should gtf out of their way..

50 points is just sick and 80 is plainly unhealthy. I think this one time I go for the 50 points but next time they can kiss my ....Also, I see only laser and missile spam. Nearly only assaults have balistic weapons :(

Amardez, PGI already pushes teamwork, that doesn't seem to even be NOTICED by the majority of the players who use the forums, much less the masses who don't use the forums. My games last night, I saw nothing that I don't see every PUG drop. People were playing as they always do, some people being stupid, some people being smart. My last drop, we stomped the enemy, who didn't do stupid things btw, my team just did smarter things, and the last enemy was a DC. I repeatedly asked my team, 'who needs a kill?' and no one answered, and I know they didn't all have kills, I had 6 in my Kit Fox and we had 11 people alive on my team. They weren't aware there was a challenge going on, don't check their email, don't check the forums, just totally unaware and playing MWO like they always do.

If you see the suiciders, guess what, that'll be forumites, some of whom have posted in the various threads on this subject that that IS what they'll be doing. You don't like it, report them to support@mwomercs.com and make PGI aware of the fact that you don't appreciate them doing a challenge that disrupts the game play like that by flooding them with reports of the people doing it.

I get the feeling you probably won't see enough people doing it to flood support though, but who knows, there's a number of seriously spoiled children on this forum, so it's possible you will have enough morons to report to flood support.

First. I said i am limited by what i have seen earlier plus the 30 odd other people what i play with on a regular basis .

Second. Suicide is not technically against the EULA so I can contact support till the cows come home and technically PGI's hands are tied (It can just be called a bad choice or the likes it practically can't be called out)

Third. NEVER EVER be so rude as to call people who you don't agree with morons or spoiled children. If you disagree make your point don't ever attack the person it is never called for.

You like the challenge i get this, I along with a stack of other chose not to play this weekend past and that is also a result of the challenge neither one of us is wrong, just different views I know PGI tries to encourage Team play which is part of the reason this was started, because i was surprised that they repeated what a large number of people considered a mistake, there are better challenges in my opinion, what i hope they take out of this is to rotate the types of challenges not just repeat ones that reward selfish play styles.

As for getting 6 kills in a Kit fox well that makes you the exception not the rule and either lucky or them unlucky, and anther reason that i dislike kill challenges as the last hit can be a very random thing in a brawl and in not a good indicator of how well people played.

P.S
After speaking with a few people who i know played anyway your experience is not lining up with theirs they were telling me that people were taking stupid risks to get kills and getting themselves killed in what is a dead mans run. I don't know if you are just not seeing it, or they are looking for it either way neither one of has access to see enough to tell who is right though i really wish i did.

I sometimes wonder if these Events mirror the attitudes of people at large. I don't participate because of how the Events make people act, but more importantly because I don't need any of the stuff they're offering as prizes. There are people who feel compelled to participate simply because they've been convinced they're somehow missing out if they don't get the free stuff even if they don't need it.

<snip>

This isn't surprising because, at its core, commercial advertising's purpose is to get people to want stuff they don't need.

This bit should be remembered, as PGI are throwing a whole barrage of psychological tricks at people to make them want to do the challenges. If people are being affected by these techniques then it's somewhat unfair to blame them for it, as a lot of it is subconscious processes that are deeply ingrained into the human condition.

It should also be remembered that the challenges aren't some kind of benevolent act, they are advertising/marketing and they only take place because they give PGI money in the long run. So they are going to use all the tricks they can to get people to take part and to give them their cash, because this is a commercial enterprise.

I said this in another thread, it needs to be about team stats, not players.

That is the only way to focus on the team and not the player.

I agree completely with this in principle, the only problem is that 1 kill 1 assist is way to easy to be considered a challenge.

I want to test myself with it, I really do, but this isn't testing my MWO skills anymore than lifting a feather up and down for 22 hours times is testing my strength. I guess in a sense you can say that after x hours of playing or lifting the feather it truly becomes a test because of boredom and sleep deprivation making the repetitions increasingly hard to do, but I would prefer a more immediate test such as trying to lift a notch heavier than my personal best or having to do really well in a few MWO games.
