Alright, we all agree that Ferro versus endosteel, sucks. Alot. Currently there is no big reason to upgrade the standard armour you have. But I think PGI should bring in something from Mechwarrior 4. Reactive and reflective armour types.

Reflective armour cuts the damage from energy weapons.

Where Reactive cuts the damage from ballistic weapons.

This would add some more meta game play, and active decision making for mech pilots customizing and building their mechs. And the balancing mechanic, would be that it takes more slots up. or In mechwarrior 4, it caused the armour to take up more space in a sense, and thus you couldn't pack on as much armour points as just strait ferro armour.

What do you all think?

I believe they shouldn't put them in before they time-skip the in-game setting to the appropriate times: 3058 for Reflective Armor & 3063 for Reactive Armor.

Also, note that Reactive Armor doesn't affect ballistics, as it only works against missile & artillery weapons.
  • "...uses a series of microscopic explosions to reduce the effects of explosive weapons fire like missiles, artillery, and mortars..."
  • "Tactical Operations, p. 282, Reactive Armor takes standard damage from energy and ballistic weapons."

I'd probably vote yes on any additional customization option.
If possible, I'd build my own 'Mech from scratch :D

Two more things to screw up? No. I can't even begin to imagine the colorful bugs this would develop.

And for what? I never ran anything but Clan-FF in MW3 anyway, because it had no downside.

Running into an AC20 mech who gets a damage BONUS because my armor is the wrong pokemon type? No thank you.

but that's just it YOU could still just run FF if you did not want to take that risk
