The game universe of BattleTech, not just as expressed in the board game, but in the expanded universe, as well, is what I want to see, what I want to play in. Let me clarify a bit... I do not expect this to be an RPG, I do not expect this to be a perfect representation, by rote and equation, of what's in the systems of BattleTech, and I would not play a game that wound up being a random number generator or, for the matter of the combat engine in this game, a Cone of Destruction game. However, that being said, I expect as close an amalgam as possible to what I've been playing since 1984.

What I would like to see, first of all, is the logistical and para-military requirements of running the various units in this game. Being able to RUN a unit, as a Commander, should be something restricted to those intelligent and skilled enough in the arts of logistics and military strategy and tactics, and not to just any old good-time charlie who wants to get together with their buddies and no one else. The way things are, right now, the pool of positive and aligned players is so diluted, and there are so many units that exist on an unnecessary basis, that there is no true strategy to the game, at all. So, while MechWarrior's play the game, and can join a much more narrow field of units, only those capable of running a unit under true logistical and para-military organization, strategy, and tactics, should be allowed to do so. Let ANYONE who wants to try to run a unit, do so, but if they prove inept at holding to the in-game currency, the organizational leadership requirements of military forces since time immemorial, and other parts of logistical, strategic, and tactical requirements, they should be shipped back to the ranks of the MechWarriors, who are there to fight, and do little else. This would also mean that many of the happy-shiny players in the Clans would have to vacate to allow those with actual honor, and an understanding of how the Clans really are supposed to operate, would be put back in the Inner Sphere, post-haste.

Next, from initiation of contract negotiations -something of an AI system for the game, vs. the Player(s) working to negotiate said contract- to designation and movement of forces across the Inner Sphere map, from departure point to destination -including some fast amalgam of transport time-, to strategic mapping of missions to be executed during the attack -and these attacks being split into the types of skirmishes outlined between the Mercenary's Handbook, and MH: 3055, including everything from raids to planetary assaults, and everything in-between, to costs, repairs, down-time, decimation of applied forces, etc.- on a world, to consolidating wins or losses, decimating, building, or re-building infrastructure, etc., and then moving on to a new contract, on completion of the first one, I want it all. This is what I feel PGI expressed they wanted to do, from the beginning, and I have recently stopped playing the same old crap all the time, because after three-and-a-half years of development, we have about a year's worth of development to play with.

Now, all of that being said, PGI have come a LONG way since February 4th, 2014, but it has been expressed in recent Town Hall's, 'Mechs, Devs, and Beer, and various posts, that there will be no further mercenary development, and they're going to leave this game with a "bunch" of new game types, but nothing representing what SHOULD be taking place in the war against the Clans, and factions fighting one-another within the Inner Sphere. A LOT of people, who are now gone from the game, have paid for these things, a complete work of the Four Pillars of the game, and we barely have one-and-a-half pillars, maybe two total if you combine the work from the other two.

Now, I and my fellow veteran gamers -especially the tabletop crowd, whose hopes were so very high for THIS game- have been kicked in our collective ass long enough. It's time for you to piss off the twitchers and the ignorant portion of this community who have NO clue what this franchise is about and, to them, it's little more than Mario on steroids, and start paying attention to those who paid to have a much better game made than what we have, now. Cater to the veterans, perform an amazing marketing campaign to get them back, and watch your game grow beyond your wildest dreams, as WE work to bring new people in, to train them, to get them fascinated with the same universe we veterans have been fascinated with since the beginning.

I have said it before, and I will reiterate it, now... the combat engine -at least the last time I played it, nearly two months ago, now- is very nearly perfect. It's not an RNG, NONE of the numbers are right, NONE, but it still feels like BattleTech tabletop on the computer should feel, at least to me. It is not perfect, but it's DAMN FINE. Now, let's get the rest of it built, stop catering to the whiners and piss-pots who want a twitch-based game, get back the veteran's, and we'll do it for you. You know what the nice thing used to be about all of those communities built by teams, the Grand Council, the Registry, Net BattleTech, BattleTech Universe, and more? They gave a damn about setting up maps, movement of ships, planets to be taken over one hex at a time, strategy and timing, and logistics; if they were able to do it ten and fifteen years ago, why can't PGI do it, now? I've been told no one's interested in that, and I very seriously beg to differ with that assessment. There are plenty of us who would like to actually command UNITS, rather than conglomerations of players who do what they want to do, just because they can.

See, PGI has the freedom thing flipped upside down. They seek to squeeze into conformance matches that should be decided, in size, scope, tonnage (or Battle Value), and other elements BY THE PLAYERS. Instead of working for cohesion in units, where MechWarrior's are paid from the unit's coffers rather than earning money on their own, actually tying them to the unit, everything works on donations to the unit, and now PGI is stuck on how to implement the use of coffers. PGI, in essence, have tea-bagged the crap out of this game, the game universe, and their customers, and the customers eat it up because they don't know any better. However, I'll guarantee you, right now, if Russ, Bryan, and Paul return to their BattleTech roots -if you're going to build a BattleTech board game combat amalgam, you've done that, and well, bit if you're going to expand that into logistics, strategy, tactics, actual missions, then you're on the wrong damn track- this game can not only recover, but it could be a lifetime paycheck for everyone involved. You know why the money's not great, right now, because you have twitch gamers, and you're catering to those who want a pretty widdle 'Mech, and a bay, and pretty cowors, but these people are going away the moment they get bored and/or find their next shiny game. Right now, guys, it is YOUR LOSS! Unfortunately, it's OURS, too, because the precedent you're setting for the NEXT BattleTech/MechWarrior game, is a REALLY piss-poor one.

I know switching over and doing something actually worth-while, when you've come so far with something completely and utterly useless, is a hard thing to do, but you guys can still come back.
