Not really, but my rig is 5 years old, and in need of a rebirth.

current Specs...

Athlon Dual Core 2.6ghz
Geforce 8600gt
4Gig DDR2 800mhz
450w PSU

*throws up in mouth*

So for about $400ish I was thinking this combo:
http://www.newegg.co...st=Combo.956204

FX-6100 3.3ghz 6core
ASRock 970 AM3+
$200

with 8Gig of Corsair 1333 DDR3
http://www.newegg.co...N82E16820148543
$40

Plus I will have to buy Windows 7
$100

So that leaves me buying a V-Card to last me until I can get a good one. Maybe spend about $75 until This Christmas.

Thoughts?

I would recommend getting the phenom ii x4 965 black edition. It cheaper and quad core. 6 cores will be unnecessary for this game. I don't think the fx chips have real cores but modules. For a video card I would say the 7770 radeon oc. What power supply do you have. Check out the guides at the top, a wealth of knowledge there.

It's true i don't think any game right now on pc use 6 cores, most are duo core.

Is that board still considered a "regular" mobo? I was going to go with the 880gm micro atx but this isn't much more expensive. Will this draw more power? Or is that still peripheral dependent?

I meant the 970 board. Sorry posting from my phone on break. But ATX is the standard board size.

power draw really won't be any different between the boards.
And it's $75 for a non-open box board : http://www.newegg.co...N82E16813157280
rather cheap really for a decent board, and only $15 more than the micro ATX board that you were looking at..

that rig isnt that outdated, is the board am2 or am3 socket? if its am2 you can upgrade to an athalonIIx4 for about 70 bucks and then the money you have leftover you can get a sleightly better gfx card am3 microcenter sells hexacores for 90 bucks
