This is stupid. If you're that concerned about "stealing" someone else's kills, then start aiming for legs and weapon arms, or important side torsos for Clan mechs and likely IS standard engine mechs once you get your 1 and 1.
That's just it. I shouldn't be worried about stealing kills. Heck, none of us should be worried about kills with respect to prizes. If we are, and the prize is worth significantly more than winning, then teammates wind up competing against each other, which goes against the idea of a team. (Image football if the "Big Game" trophy went to the player with the most tackles, instead of the team with the most points. No one would play offense, and defensemen might trip "teammates" to beat them to a tackle.)
As for "highest damage and kills", my raven does maybe 150-200/match, and has a KDR of 1, which has been decreasing. However, it has a WLR of 1.26, which has remained steady. I only PUG. I focus solely on the win. (I still make mistakes though.) If I just needed 30 wins, I'd have to play 54 matches. This is PvP: almost eveyone's WLR is going to be near 1, because for every winner there is a non-victor. If one's WLR is significantly less than 1 while getting highest damage and kills, one's probably doing something wrong. (Firwuff, I obviously have no idea what your WLR is or your playstyle, but I've just seen too many people use their team as bait just to get damage and kills, not victories. I have often used/sacrificed my mech as bait to help us get a win. Teammates shouldn't be tempted to use me as bait just to get a kill.)
Yes, these challenges are very long, but I suspect that's what PGI wants: people spending as much time as possible playing their game. If one gets a point for every match this weekend, 50 matches is probably going to take 7 hours? If one is only 75% "efficient", you're looking at over 10 hours. Personally, I'd rather put in 4-5 hours overtime to get the cash to buy the mech. I'd still have 3-5 hours remaining to grind the Adder.
(Edit: corrected spelling of "instead". Removed 700 MC comment: I'd only have 190 MC left over after purchasing Adder Prime with $15 MC bundle.)
Edit: Group advantage: Since Groups and PUGs are no longer combined, there shouldn't be any comparison. An average player should have a 50% chance of winning or losing a game in either queue. Every time someone gets bump in the Win column, someone else gets a bump in the Loss column.
