Yea, it is insane. I made it to 28 and just can't keep the desire to want to keep going. Oh well, I tried?

I did notice on Russ' twitter this "Let's see how the event goes - if people spoil it we can stop giving away mechs and nice things."

So he has resulted to childish scolding to keep people from doing what he doesn't want lol!

If he said that it's pretty stupid considering that the rules are telling people if they want the 'nice things' and mech in a reasonable timeframe they have to spoil it by kill/suicide/repeat tactics.

If he did stop doing challenges most normal players would lose very little and gain better playing conditions, so not much of a threat really.

It is only natural for game companies to try to keep people playing during weekends. I'd say weekend challenges/tourneys should be integral part of MWO to spice up the monotony.

Just do not make it so grindy. Players getting burned out is counterproductive.

I miss the CHALLENGES. Best light/medium/heavy/assault with leaderboards. Your 10 best games against theirs. Grind if you want, see how you match up against others, rewards for showing up and just playing the 10 games on that weight class.

The people complaining arnt getting the free stuff. Thats why theyre complaining.

Its understandable. 50 games is a bit excessive for people who only play the game casually. Theyre not going to grind out 6-7 hours of playing to get a free mech.

25-30 games is more reasonable expectation. Thats what PGI needs to aim for.

Even for good players it takes 10 or so hours of play to get the Adder, simply because you can't guarantee a kill/assist in each match and matches take some time to find/complete. It took me about 9.

Hey, someone tweet at Russ and ask him how many games he qualified for over the weekend.

Some people must not remember the times when we almost never had events.

The complaints are legitimate. We just want to see this game improve. Some of us are saddened by the degenerate gameplay displayed as everyone ignores teamplay and focuses entirely on selfish killing blows.

I think challenges that make people play differently are a nice change of pace...

50 points for the mech is a hell of a lot, though. It took me 124 games to get the Adder, compared to 120 for the Cataphract.

If they did it right the first time there wouldn't be complaints.

Match score = 36

25 matches Mech

50 matches color

80 matches camo

I'd rather the challenges inspire teamplay instead of encouraging people to rush to a kill, tickle a few mechs to fish for an assist, and then bail on their team to re-drop into a new match.

We have these match-score and c-bill bounties that are supposed to provide equal rewards for varying playstyles. Simply use them as your event metric. Earn X match-score or X c-bills over the course of the weekend. Then players are encouraged to work with their teams for the win instead of trying to game the system with meta-strategies like scoring your kill and then immediately bailing on your team for a new match.

Complain...complain...complain! Why are people so ungrateful!

I don't think people are ungrateful.
But the latest challenge was too grindy, and challenges in general result in degraded gameplay, as players try to get their rewards at any cost.
And having to play against nothing but "meta-builds" can be frustrating if you want to play around with different loadouts or try to master mechs,...

I'd prefer simpler challenges, even if the rewards are much less.

Like the Operation 24 Mark II: http://mwomercs.com/...tion-24-mark-ii
That event only gave out 1 day of premium and a single mech bay, but it was quite simple to complete.

No stress involved at all in completing that one.

At my current rate of playing, there's not enough time to get 80 points. I don't want to know what an actual casual player is going through.

I would assume a causal player would not be worried about the challenge.

Just saying something about the time amount to complete this challange
it took me 138 games to get the 51 points and i had alot of games with 8+ assists...
avarage 7 minutes per game would make 16 hours

This challange on a weekend as a father who had to work on sunday and just the possibility to play from 10pm to maybe2 am was very hard.

Why was it hard ? because i just want to be a usefull team member and do stuff the team needs and not stuff the challenge would need to be completed fast.

So you spend alot of time and maybee u go out with no point of a game alot of assists scouting spoting and dmg done but still no point... this is kinda unfair but ok...

if you realy want to complete this fast you simply mount 6 erppcs hurt several ppl for the secure assist and then go all in bam 6 erppc in your face
Oh wait you are not dead? ok
overide spamm another alpha in your face and then die because of heat
Nothing done for the game nothing done for your team but a easy point in 3 minutes achived... i mean WTF stupid point system

i wanted the color and the camo too but there is not enough time sadly ... i allready needed to do the last 4 points for the adder during work on my laptop with a lrm boat.... ololol.. 14 fps ftw

I like free stuff and don't mind to grind a bit for it but as stated before it brings out the worst play styles in people and the game is not fun when this happens. It appears the main problem is retaining people in the game so they dangle the carrot but in fact it has driven many away. I pretty much sat out of this challenge as did many. Change the challenge so that you need no points just match totals even lower the reward in needed. Once a month have a mega challenge like the current one for 50 points = adder etc.

I would wager that if we had more maps and more game content and fix simple bugs that have been here since beta there would be no issue retaining players and there would be a server farm on each major continent.

It would just be nice to have at least 2 weekends a month of just good old normal game play with out a grind and crazy people.

This game overall lacks objectives and goals (other than personal goals of chassis purchasing and leveling).

CW is still rough around the edges (and largely unappealing to PUGs), so we are in the regular queue which is arena shooting.

I'm not complaining, it is what it is, but challenges offer a goal outside the norm, so they are popular. Compete, make objectives (3 points, 10, 20, etc...) And get rewarded for your hard work.

It takes work, so people will complain. The meta builds and LRMs come out because people struggle to get that 1 point sometimes. That makes it frustrating at times, but it is everyone trying to get that kill. It just needs to be a long road because it is decent prizes for free.

Anyway, I'm just glad the win requirement was removed.

Any who, that was a bit ranty. My point is that challenges are a pain, but its a goal people can look forward to other than the standard grind. The prizes mean its a lot of work, so if you want that free mech, man up and work. It will be a long weekend.

People have many reasons for complaining and honestly almost all of them are valid. If people don't complain PGI doesn't know how to fix it, or if they ignore what people are complaining about most, people will stop playing.

Honestly after the Raven challenge I skipped this one and hardly played this weekend at all just to avoid the grind and crummy game play. It was a nicer weekend not caring about trying to grind out the prize. What does that say about the state of the challenges?
