There are enough?
What about the outer pirate Kingdoms? What about ComStar? Mercenary´s etc.?
Which Faction would you wish that this is official selectable in MWO?
I vote for Comstar
sorry for my english

Faction Warfare
The Inner Sphere is broken up into several factions, each with their own regions and sub-regions. Each faction is warring with at least one other faction at all times in a universal territory battle. Players can be active or passive participants in this battle by following one of three paths:
Pledging Allegiance to a Faction (6 house factions)
Joining a Mercenary Corporation
Remaining Neutral
ComStar is not a player yet, clans do not exist yet and pirates are the PvE content not added yet.

most games have 2 maybe 3 ... we have 5 or 6 at launch.
With another major one coming in in the next 12 months. And enough canon lore to introduce plenty more. We need newer players to get used to the core houses before we start messing with the periphery.

5-7 actually. Each Clan is considered it's own faction and there were seven clans out of the many others that participated in the invasion.

What about the fact that this is a game.
Can't just throw things into it for the sake of it. There does need to be a line drawn. STO only has 2 factions, TOR has 2 factions, Battlestar Galactica Online has 2 factions.
I think you people calling for more factions on MWO are mental you really are.

Comstar will probably be the Dev faction for when they decide to drop into a game and slaughter everyone.

Too many factions, and you don't have enough people to really make it count. Too few factions, and you have imbalanced, We'll be working with 6 factions here, which may be too many.
Plus the merc companies will be able to bounce around from contract to contract as well.

There's really enough in my opinion, seeing as the canon factions are made up of billions upon billions of people, and there's only thousands of us. and not everyone right now has chosen a faction, and the game isn't even out yet. so lets not get carried away with adding so many things that people get overwhelmed just starting the game up and picking a faction.
I'd rather not start up the game and see a giant screen of ALL the factions ever in BT.

Not enough factions you say ?
I myself would actually prefer that they wait more than a year to introduce the clans. I mean they already have A LOT of work to do with the existing IS mechs and all their variants, plus the multiple bugs that surely are going to appear, plus the balance issues that are also going to appear...One year is very short and it would be better that PGI wait a little more and do something great than to rush things too much. But nothing has been said yet about the clans so I'm probably just panicking for nothing.
But yay, just wait a bit, factions are coming
