War Projectors!
Similar to Warhorns. You equip them in your cockpit.
Then once you get a kill, a message or Icon is projected over the dead mech for a short time.
For example, it could project the Clan Wolf symbol, or 3050, or similar things.
no projection line or path, so it won't give away your position but would be noticeable, similar to when you get a kill with a warhorn, people hear it, but it doesn't result in a tactical disadvantage.
if they add in custom decals and icons this system could be used to display your Unit's icon or your own personal icon.

too arcade like. inside cockpit items can be as zanny as they want to be but dropping things others will see takes away from the gameplay in my opinion.

Instead, just give us a kill counter cockpit item. Like this guy's.

Don't some mechs have that on their MFD's? (not what's in the video)
They do, but it is barely noticeable. Imagine the amount of money PGI can make if they make a separate cockpit item for it and add some sounds. Cha-Ching!

I don't think the existing counter even updates when you get kills, IIRC.
