I take a gauss kit fox out occasssionaly for fun. Sometimes you have to push normal aside and see what happens. I don't worry much if someone thinks I'm ruining their 10 minutes of game by running an unconventional build.

How'd you get a gauss on a kit?

I am now a member of the gauss it good club

Nevermind your Adder. I see a PRETTY BABY with 4 kills and 818 damage :o

Thats only cool if you could do that a year ago. Still rare to see that mech at all however.

First match I ever had with my CDA-3M gauss + ecm build, I did 500 damage. And I've had a lot of great matches with it since. Running an Adder gauss sniper seems a bit too hardmode for me, since it doesn't have ECM. But I know you can do pretty well with a single gauss rifle, when it's basically (or, in my case, literally) your only weapon. It heightens your senses. Sean Connery calls it "the quickening".

I just got home from work and I tried a couple of games with a gauss adder, it's a little weird at first, but I'm having a blast

i'm actually finding lately in the pub queue that what i'd deem "sleeper" mechs are doing more tactical dmg than the usual suspects, namely because there is too much focus on the meta and "kill it! kill it with fire" over assessing who's doing what and reacting accordingly.

More power to you if you can make em work man!!

^ I've noticed a bit of that too

its two fold tho'. I get the "hey, its a noob in an unresearched easy to kill light mech.

And I got pummeled last night, sub 100 point battle, first to die, 1 assist, match score of 8 or something...
I got focus fired on when I stuck my head up...TWICE in the same spot, last thing I saw were half a dozen ppc's and ballistics inbound

My favorite Adder is the AC/20 Adder.

Pack a few tons of ammo, some backup lasers, and then smack down everything up to and including light mediums. Hell, play it right and you can even use it to lay the hurt on heavies and assaults. Obviously urban maps or anything that forces CQC is preferable to open maps.

I often say, that the Adder ( and most clan lights to a lesser degree) should be played like under-armoured mediums....

While i agree that is the only way to play it, it kinda infuriates me when people try to claim the adder is fine and should be treated as a medium. If i want a mech that goes 107kph .. guess what the best choice of mech is? Its not a light, its a medium. I can build a Wolverine (or if you want to go with gauss a WVR-6R) with the same speed, more firepower, better cooling and more armour. In order to NOT SUCK lights HAVE to go faster than mediums can with a reasonable sized engine, or they are simply craptastic mediums. Im not saying they all have to do 150, i think the Mist Lynx is fast enough (barely), but they simply cannot do medium speed.

And yes, of course, you can have good games in anything. It means nothing, unless you can do it consistently, against decent players.

or a treb/hawk/etc. There is a long list (for me) "better" mechs if the end game was fast gauss.
If you cracked open the drawing board and decided to build one...i would not grab the keys to the adder first..or third...

hehe, but I got mine for free! I would never have even bothered to run the trial adder otherwise. Even the free one, I nearly sold it, didn't even read up on them- I've killed way too many to think it was a threat. I'm more worried about kitfox, spider, ravens and those dam jenners and firestarters to ever even THINK about wasting a minute in one of these.
Not sure if I'm ready to grind out two more, this seems/feels to be about as good as it will get. But I'll likely keep it for those days I feel the short yellow bus calling. :D

The problem I see with relying on 1 lone gauss rifle to snipe with is that it's very heavy, has quite low DPS, and 15 damage isn't really enough to "burst" a mech down, so it really should be complemented by at least 1 (ideally more) similar range energy weapon if you're going to use it that way. You can't fit a gauss rifle and another heavy energy weapon on an Adder though, so if you ask me it would do better as an energy sniper, with some combination of C-ER PPC, C-LPL, and C-ER LL.

I will say it is nice to have some decent small lasers for backup, but if you're in a light mech and your goal is to snipe it seems a little counter productive to use those lasers most of the time.
