The male/female ratio of pilots question got me thinking. Is MW such a masculine activity that masculinity is imposed on the game? Just reviewing the mechs in MW4, there aren't any that I could say are feminine in design.

Do you think that is because it's a "guy" thing to be the warrior or because mech design is controlled by "guys" ?

Would love your thoughts on this.

Come to think of it, a Nova from MW4 could be considered proportionally female, if the big shoulders were shoulder pads.....

The avian- or insectoid-looking Mechs do not strike me as particularily "male" or "female". But then I wouldn't know how a male or female bird would look when turned into a multiple-ton robot.

Oh, and as an example you could take the well-known Locust. And no, I do not think that central laser gunshaft on some models is necessarily a phallic symbol.

I'm mostly a MechCommander 2 fan/player. One design I can think of that looks more feminine than masculine to me is Liao's Men Shen.

What would a feminine mech look like anyways? If by feminine you mean fragile and nimble, go looking in the light to medium mech categorie... I mean a mech is nothing more but a warmachine, I couldn't imagine what a feminine tank or fighterplane would look like.
On top of that, have you ever seen a woman completely geard up in military equipment? Especially with dirt/paint in their face you can harldy tell the difference unless she's wearing push-ups or has enormous cleavage... xD

Unless you're asking for Hello Kitty paint schemes, I don't really think I get your question.

I think the bulkiness and more military look of the newer art style will just tend towards masculine looking mechs, whatever that means.

I don't really consider gender when looking at a giant war machine. Not sure what you mean by "feminine" designs, but I would say any agile, humanoid mech would do. The Incubus comes to mind. Just change the name to Succubus.
