Do you mean the MWO VERSION of the locust? Or the locust in general? Because Battletech had the locust concept quite a while ago, and mwo is based on battletech designs.

I think the orange silhouette art was drawn at an earlier date and used as inspiration for both MWO locust and Gun.

Although its not explicitly stated t seems like alex intends for gun to the locust as lu wei bing to the MWO victor

Its whichever piece of art was first drawn by him

Now that I look up the numbers...

The TRO3145 was published in September 2013. The Phoenix Project for MWO was announced in June 2013...so it appears that it was the other way around instead (Gun based off of the MWO Locust a few months later?). :\

...Unless Al already began art for the Gun a really long time ago before publication, but we can't verify that.

Either way, they are extremely similar, so one of them has to have inspired the other.

While we're talking about BT mechs based off of MWO or the other way around, the Stalker II by Shimmering Sword is TT's version of the MWO Stalker:

Or, like with the jet engine, they both created something along the same lines without knowing they were doing so.

The orange picture in OP, the MWO locust, and the gun omnimech were drawn by alex. Notice the A.I. in the bottom right corner
